Early Dismissal Friday!

The 2022-23 CRCSD school year is off to a great start! Thank you to the parents, students, teachers and the entire rest of the CRCSD staff for a successful first week.

Reminder: Today is a Friday, which is always an early dismissal across CRCSD. High School and Middle School will dismiss at 1:20 pm, while Elementary Schools will dismiss at 2:20 pm.

We encourage you to check out the images from across the CRCSD where you can see students enjoying the first week of school. We appreciate you doing your part in our mission of Every Learner. Future Ready. Enjoy the weekend, and we will look forward to seeing students and staff next week!

Facilities Master Plan Task Force concepts

The Facilities Master Plan Task Force, which encompasses community members and CRCSD staff, created concepts for secondary schools (middle school and high school). These concepts, along with proposed cost estimates, were presented to the CRCSD board of directors this past Monday evening. Please see here for a video and document of the presentation.

CRCSD Facilities Master Plan Community Open Houses

The public is invited to community open houses to learn more about the Cedar Rapids Community School District’s facilities master plan and ask questions. The focused discussion involves middle school and high school renovation, additions, new build and repurposing.

There are three, in-person options and one virtual offering.

Middle School test scores move towards pre-pandemic levels

Keeping students on track throughout the pandemic was a feat that most were not prepared for. Anxieties around the world itself, concern over parents’ job security, difficulties regarding virtual learning and the health of themselves and those they love made concentration difficult for students.

We are excited to share that test scores across the CRCSD are improving, and moving toward pre-pandemic levels. This is all thanks to our educators and students, for putting in the work and getting proficiency back on track.

CRCSD High School Coach Spotlight

Megan Lewis

Washington Swimming and Diving Coach

Megan was a former swimmer at Washington, the same place she coaches now. She spent three years as a state qualifier in both the 200 freestyle and 500 freestyle events. Since graduation she has held various coaching positions at different levels, but has since found her home again at Washington, where she is entering her 16th year. During the school year she teaches students at Washington who are on the Autism Spectrum, where she is currently entering her 8th year.

Cheer on the Washington Swim Team at their next meet on Tuesday, 8/30 at 6pm at Holmes High School.

Shelby Patterson

Kennedy Cheer Coach

Shelby Patterson is the Head Cheer Coach at Kennedy High School, where she is going into her 8th year of coaching. She was a cheerleader herself at Kennedy, having graduated in 2007, and loves that she gets to coach at the same place she cheered! She's excited for her current team as most of them are brand new to cheerleading, yet have been doing awesome cheers! During the school year, Shelby is a Kindergarten Teacher at West Willow Elementary.

Check out the Kennedy Cheer Squad on Friday, 9/2 at 7pm in Bettendorf.
