Together We Build a Thriving Community for All

Christie's March Mission Moment

As leaders of nonprofit agencies, we are faced with an abundance of projects and people looking to us for input, support and direction. At the same time, we are charged with developing a strong partnership with our board, our clients, and the agencies who work in our space, all while creating and executing a vision to bring our mission to life.

It is difficult some days to even think about adding another “to-do” to the growing list of tasks before us, but as Artificial Intelligence becomes a working “norm” (as I believe it will – or perhaps has, already?), it is important that we explore and evaluate which of the AI tools we can and should add to our toolkits.

Having dabbled in using ChatGPT to get me started on a thank you letter, and seeing the impact of time saved on the minutes generated during a TEAMS committee meeting, these time saving tools make it possible for me to focus on other activities needing my attention. What else might be available to add to my toolkit?

This article is a quick read with insight (pros and cons) and resources: AI and the Grant Professional: a Divine Tool or Pit of Iniquity?

Ready or not...AI is here to stay.

And some exciting news: OneSource will be hosting an AI seminar on April 10. Look for registration details coming soon. We hope to see you there.

Kind thanks to Leigh Taylor!

Building Better Boards

Harnessing the Strength of Collective Board Member

Potential through a Facilitated Retreat

When Indigo Hippo, an art supply thrift store with a mission to make creativity accessible to all through pay-what-you-can-pricing, reached out to OneSource Center for consulting support in late 2022, their current Board had never met in person. Several new members had onboarded in 2020, and as the pandemic ran its course through the local area, the Board met exclusively over virtual platforms. Ms. Emily Dake, Indigo Hippo's Executive Director, began to see the opportunity -and the need- to create space for a facilitated in-person Board Member retreat.

During the retreat, Board members enhanced their collective understanding about what it means to be a member of a working board for a small, equity-focused organization like Indigo Hippo. Through consultant-facilitated workshops, the members deepened their awareness of their roles, responsibilities, contributions, participation, and expectations. Since completing the retreat, Ms. Dake has witnessed positive changes such as more engagement from her Board during this recent fundraising season, and more effective team dynamics. "Working with OneSource Center consultants Rob and Bridget was a wonderful experience. Their combined expertise guided our Board retreat down fresh avenues of collaboration and allowed us to deepen our understanding of our internal board structure, collective skill sets, and empowered our Board members to engage more effectively."

Indigo Hippo is now poised to celebrate it's eighth year this Spring, and are also planning their next art show featuring creative re-use materials in May. Keep in touch with their positive community vibe movement at their website!

Could your organization also benefit from a teambuilding Board Retreat facilitated by skilled experts? Reach out to Amanda Lynn Barker at abarker@onesourcectr.org and bring your vision into the world!

Support and Healing for Child Trauma Survivors Through

New Adventures

Christy Brock, LISW-S, CCAT, is a Certified Clinical Adventure Therapist and the Executive Director and Founder of New Adventures Counseling. Since 2018, Christy has helped child survivors of trauma find strength, courage, and vulnerability within themselves by engaging with dynamic new environments, particularly those found in nature. Adventure therapy is a dynamic option to traditional mental health therapies, providing limitless options and significant mental health benefits.

As a small non-profit organization, Christy recognized the value of the resources she could access through a OneSource Center Membership. Through their membership, New Adventures was able to fully furnish two therapy offices, one waiting room and two home offices, all in a relaxed, natural style that puts their clients at ease. They have also utilized the voucher program to support local families in getting essential supplies from the Common Good Store.

New Adventures is currently accepting interns for the summer and fall semesters and is always open to volunteers to help with organization and gear maintenance. Donations of hiking and water shoes, water bottles, rain gear, hammocks, sleeping bags, backpacks and any gently used outdoor gear are greatly appreciated. They are also looking for community partners to collaborate with to offer programming to BIPOC families.

To learn more about New Adventures Counseling, please visit their website or call them at 513-341-8729.
