EVANS WEEKLY
Issue: #29
March 20, 2020

Dear Panther Parents,

I say all the time how impressed I am with our Evans' community...and in times like this, I am especially proud to be a Panther.  You guys have been patient, gracious, and understanding as we figure out the best way to keep our community safe and healthy.  Many of these things are out of our control, but the things that we do control, you have been supportive and realize that the decisions being made are because of how much we care about our students and staff.  And let me just say, I cannot begin to tell you how much we miss our kiddos.  So, thank you for continued grace as we roll out the next 2 phases of our plan to implement instruction to your children.  You hear me say all the time that it "takes a village" and even though our village cannot physically be together, it is our teamwork that will help us overcome any of the challenges we are facing.  Again, thank you!!!

MISD Digital Teaching and Learning Plan
Monday, March 23, we will open the Enrichment @ Home page that has the resources kids can use starting next week.  So be on the lookout for these resources.  You can also checkout our MISD website for the latest and greatest resources available to students.

Our teachers are working diligently to create awesome, on-line instruction that will begin March 30th.  I was just on a Zoom conference with our staff, and they are full of so many amazing ideas and thoughts on how to make this a positive learning experience for your children.  Students will be able to access these lessons through their Canvas accounts.  Many parents are not sure how to help support their kiddos through some of these online lessons, but have no fear, your child's teachers will be there to help guide you.  Teachers will have "office hours" available for you to setup times for needed assistance starting March 30th.  Teachers will be contacting you next week with this information. But truly, our students have been using many of the same platforms that we will utilize. For them, things will not feel completely new or different.  Either way, we will get through this together.

Please see information below regarding updated GRAB and GO food services.  In a nutshell, the 6 elementary locations will only be handing out food from 11:00-12:30.  You will receive that day's lunch and the next day's breakfast.  And as always, check our website for the most updated information available: evansms.com

Above all things, stay healthy and safe!
Go Panthers!

MISD PHYSICAL AND CARDIAC EXAM INFORMATION FOR
2020-2021

      LEARNING COMMONS

IMPORTANT UPCOMING ELECTION INFORMATION

We want to make you aware of an important election taking place on May 2 called an "attendance credit election." Basically, this ballot item asks McKinney residents to vote "for" or "against" the method MISD uses to make mandatory payments to the state under a law commonly referred to as the Robin Hood law. If the measure passes, MISD will be authorized to continue making its mandatory payments using the most cost-effective method, known as "purchasing attendance credits" - the method that it has used since 2014-15. If the measure does not pass, the state will be authorized to detach $2.3 billion of taxable McKinney property and send that tax revenue to another district. That detachment of property could likely be permanent and in the coming years would impact MISD programs.

We encourage you to read more about this important ballot measure by visiting www.mckinneyisd.net/election - and please vote on May 2.
