THE 2-MINUTE COURSE TUNE-UP

This Week: Give Your Modules a Quick Check

A well-organized Canvas course helps students spend less time searching for materials and more time focusing on learning. Take two minutes to review one of your course modules from a student's perspective.

Try this quick check:

  • Are module titles descriptive enough for students to know what they'll find?
  • Are assignments, readings, and activities arranged in a logical order?
  • Is it clear what students should complete first and what comes next?

The takeaway: Small organizational improvements can make your course easier to navigate and help students feel more confident about what they need to do.

It's Time to Start Converting Your Canvas Classic Quizzes

Have you started converting your Classic Quizzes to New Quizzes?

With Classic Quizzes being turned off at the end of Fall 2026, we encourage faculty to begin migrating existing assessments now rather than waiting until the end of the semester.

Online@JSU is offering two hands-on migration workshops next week:

Canvas New Quizzes: Converting Classic Quizzes to New Quizzes

Monday, October 26 | 3:00 - 4:00 p.m.

Tuesday, October 27 | 1:00 - 2:00 p.m.

During this workshop, you'll learn how to efficiently convert existing Classic Quizzes into the New Quizzes format and what to expect during the migration process.

Register for a Classic-to-New Quizzes conversion workshop

Don't wait until December.

Courses containing multiple quizzes, exams, and question banks may require additional time to review and prepare. Starting now gives you time to identify and address potential issues before your Spring 2027 courses begin.

Honorlock: 4 More Common Issues That Can Disrupt an Exam

1.Conflicting Chrome Extensions

Students who use both Honorlock and Proctorio for different courses may experience issues if both Chrome extensions are enabled. Having both active can prevent Honorlock from functioning properly.

Tip: Have students check their Chrome extensions and disable Proctorio when taking an Honorlock-proctored exam, then re-enable it when needed for a Proctorio exam.

2.Too Many Programs Running During an Exam

Other applications running in the background can interfere with an Honorlock exam. Students should close unnecessary programs before starting and leave open only those specifically approved by their instructor.

3.Poor Lighting or Camera Quality

A dimly lit room or a webcam that isn't working properly can create problems during proctoring. Students should check their camera ahead of time, ensure their face is clearly visible, and choose a well-lit testing area.

4.Honorlock Won’t Let the Student Continue?

If Honorlock encounters an issue during setup or the exam, students may need to return to their Canvas course and relaunch the exam through the Honorlock Dashboard in the course navigation menu. If the issue continues, they should contact Honorlock Support and notify their instructor promptly.

Additionally, these Honorlock Troubleshooting Tips may be helpful before reaching out to Honorlock.

Faculty Reminder: Canvas Course Access Ends at the End of the Term

Now would be a great time to remind your students that Canvas course access ends three days after final exams conclude, at 11:59 p.m. Encourage students to save any coursework, assignment feedback, discussion posts, Turnitin Similarity Reports, and other course materials they may need for future reference before access expires.

Here are a few resources you can share with students to help them prepare:

A quick reminder now can help students avoid losing access to important materials they may need later in their academic programs or for professional and accreditation-related exams.
