The church color for this Sunday is still green - for many weeks!
This one's the seventh Su nday.

Here are the readings:

Here's the familiar song called Jacob's Ladder, with climbing and hugging actions: click here !

"the angels went up, up, up - the angels went down, down, down - on the ladder to Heaven in Jacob's dream"!

This week, we're wondering about this Old Testament reading: Genesis 28:10-19a -

Jacob left Beer-sheba and went towards Haran. He came to a certain place and stayed there for the night, because the sun had set. Taking one of the stones of the place, he put it under his head and lay down in that place.

And he dreamed that there was a ladder set up on the earth, the top of it reaching to heaven; and the angels of God were ascending and descending on it.

And the Lord stood beside him and said, ‘I am the Lord, the God of Abraham your father and the God of Isaac; the land on which you lie I will give to you and to your offspring; and your offspring shall be like the dust of the earth, and you shall spread abroad to the west and to the east and to the north and to the south; and all the families of the earth shall be blessed in you and in your offspring. Know that I am with you and will keep you wherever you go, and will bring you back to this land; for I will not leave you until I have done what I have promised you.’

Then Jacob woke from his sleep and said, ‘Surely the Lord is in this place—and I did not know it!’ And he was afraid, and said, ‘How awesome is this place! This is none other than the house of God, and this is the gate of heaven.’

Jacob rose early in the morning. He took the stone that he had put under his head and set it up for a pillar, and poured oil on the top of it. He called that place Bethel.
Have you ever gone on a long trip and had to stop for the night?
Have you ever slept outside?
Did you ever use a rock for a pillow?
Have you ever had amazing dreams?
Have you seen or can you imagine some place where earth and heaven meet, with a ladder full of angels going up and down?
Has God spoken to you, and made you promises?
Is there some place that is so special to you that you want to remember it always?
Did you know?

You can use your Legos, Mega Blox, wooden blocks, dolls, stuffies, and/or anything at all to recreate the scenes and stories of the Bible.

(And when you do, send me a picture!)

How would you show Jacob resting his head on a rock (a rock that later is a pillar, marking a holy place), sleeping outside, dreaming of a ladder reaching from earth to heaven, full of angels? How could you show God talking?
Here's an old-fashioned toy that's sure to please, a Jacob's Ladder !

You can make your own, using thick paper or cardboard - or thin wooden blocks, if you have them! See the instructions above, or try these:

This one uses 12 squares of cardboard to make a six-block toy:

Here's how to make a two-block toy; the teacher calls it Li'l Jacob! https://bookzoompa.files.wordpress.com/2015/02/lil-jacob1.pdf
Find some string or yarn and try this awesome string game, Jacob's Ladder . They say once you learn it, you'll never forget. Click here for a very helpful video!
