Jesus is known by the breaking of the bread
Gospel: Luke 24:13-35
Three days after Jesus had died and was buried, two friends were walking to a little town called Emmaus. They talked with sadness about all that had happened over the past few days, how Jesus had died and been buried. They talked about the astonishing news from women who had gone to where Jesus was buried - to find no body; instead, angels who told them Jesus was alive!
While they were walking and talking, a stranger joined them and listened to their news. The stranger told them amazing stories about Jesus, from the past.
The two friends invited the stranger to join them for dinner. When he was at the table with the two friends, he took bread, blessed and broke it, and gave it to them. Then the two friends knew exactly who the stranger was: their dear friend, Jesus!

Why were the friends sad? I wonder if you're feeling sad. Everyone feels sad sometimes. Things to do when you feel sad: talk with friends, draw, sing, move (walk, jump, dance!). Playing can help. Making things, even doing chores, are good activities. And sometimes the best thing to do is to be still and talk to God.
Astonishing news: angels who told them Jesus was alive!
Angels shared the happy news. Make an angel, or a host of angels!

Listening is a good way to learn. Here's a silly game about listening: Telephone! Somebody says something quietly to the first person, who repeats it quietly to the next person, who repeats it quietly to the next person, etc., and the last person says what they heard - was it what the first person said?!

A trick to being a good listener is to hear what someone says without wondering what you'll say back. A way to practice listening is to stop, be quiet, and hear all the sounds around you. What do you hear?
Join them for dinner

Meals are a special time for gathering together, and for sharing thanks.
Here's a lovely little prayer - a grace - to say before eating: "Bless our hearts to hear in the breaking of the bread the song of the universe" (Fr. John Guiliani). Or say "Bless this food" in Latin, just because it sounds awesome: Benedicte hunc cibum" (Ben-ay-dik-tay hunk chee-boom!)

Jesus did this at the Last Supper! Have you heard this said at Church? You can find these words in our Book of Common Prayer.
Then they knew exactly who the stranger was: their dear friend, Jesus!
