All the Way with VPK: Training for VPK Teachers

 

Florida Statutes 1002.55 and 1002.63 F.S., require that both public school and private provider VPK instructors complete the Early Learning Standards and three 5-hour emergent literacy courses.

The following Division of Early Learning (DEL) training sessions meet the course requirement for the Early Learning and Developmental Standards and are offered online, virtually and in-person.

The Coordinated Screening and Progress Monitoring Program is the statewide, standardized program known as Florida Assessment of Student Thinking (FAST) Star Early Literacy implemented in all VPK programs as required by s. 1002.68, F.S

FAST TRAINING


The VPK FAST Star Early Literacy courses have been updated for the 2024-2025 program year.

 

Annual Requirement: Test administrators must complete the training yearly. Completion dates must be on or after May 1, 2024. Certificates are valid for one year from the completion date.

 

Note: If your profile is not showing the updated courses you will need to click on the same key from the Enrollment Guide to bring up the new courses (step 2):

New Documents to sign and downloaded after training video is completed:

 

1.   Test Administration and Security Agreement

2.   Test Administrator Prohibited Activities Agreement.

 

Signature Needed: Physical signatures are required (no electronic signatures).


VPK provider must upload the following three documents to the document library in the Provider Portal in the folder 2024-25 FAST Test Administrators:

 

1.   Valid Certificate or Transcript: A certificate of completion or DCF Training Transcript reflecting the course titled "VPK FAST Star Early Literacy Test Administrators."

2.   Test Administration and Security Agreement

3.   Test Administrator Prohibited Activities Agreement

 

Providers are encouraged to scan and save the three documents as one file as

First and Last Name_VPK FAST Star Early Literacy Test Administrator_24-25

(Example: JaneDoe_VPK FAST Star Early Literacy Test Administrator_24-25).

Child Portfolio

The Child Portfolio is designed to help families understand what their child learned in the preschool program, as well as things they can do at home to create developmentally appropriate learning environments for their children.

Activity Plans for the Preschool Classroom

Ages 3 to 5 years

Developed by the Florida Department of Education (DOE), Division of Early Learning (DEL), the activity plans are appropriate for preschool children, ages 3 to 5 years. They are aligned with the Florida Early Learning and Developmental Standards (FELDS) and include developmentally appropriate, hands-on activities to enhance learning in the preschool classroom. The activity plans are available in English and Spanish and can be accessed using the padlet link below.

To aid in planning, the activity plans include learning objective, targeted standards, step-by-step directions for activity implementation, materials needed, how to check for understanding and tips for scaffolding and extension.
