7-7-2020 Virtual Club Meeting

Based on the record number of COVID-19 cases in our area, we will keep our weekly meetings virtual for the time being. The safety of our members and community is most important and by being cautious we will be part of flattening the curve.

We all look forward to returning to in-person meetings and will keep you informed when these will occur.  Weekly updates will be sent  via E-Newsletters and by email including Zoom meeting information.

Upcoming club meeting dates/times:
July   14th-Monthly board meeting 6pm (no regular meeting, all are welcome)
July   21st-no regular meeting (anniversary celebration instead)
July   23rd-40th anniversary celebration
July   28th-no regular meeting
August 4th-regular meeting

Links will be sent out each week and if you don't want to participate on screen you can just dial in and be part of it. Speakers and other activities will be incorporated into the meetings.

Announcements/reminders from the meeting tonight:

  • The North Manatee Kiwanis Club joined us tonight for an Interclub. It was nice to learn about what another club out of our division is doing and it was nice to meet Erin's mom who is in that club. They sponsor 3 Key clubs, a Builder's Club, and a K-Kids club. They host a fishing tournament and their big annual fundraiser is the Cracker Trail Country Feast, now October 17th (held outdoor, entertainment, food, activities/games).

  • Karen reported on the latest project with Aktion club. The members aren't back yet but Karen and a few of our members are in the process of painting clay flower pots that will then be filled with plants that will be donated on behalf of the Aktion club.
  • Service project alert: calling all fleece blanket makers! Who wants to help make blankets for foster kids? We are formulating a plan to purchase the fleece and meet up with you so you can make them at home. All you need is a large table surface and a good pair of scissors. It's recommended you work in a pet free environment. Interested? Let Lindsey or Kim know. Grab a family member, club member, or go solo.
  • Todd reported on the dining book fundraiser and let him know if you can sell any. Thank you to all for your attempts to sell and promote these books! Sales provide us with funding for projects for the upcoming year. The coupons are good through November.
  • Share your good news!! Send pics and some good news to Kim for upcoming newsletters.
  • Continue to save your aluminum pull tabs from beverage and food cans. We are turning them it to Ronald McDonald House.

Our work as Kiwanians is valuable to our community!  Please continue to monitor, use good judgement and take  extra proactive measures to ensure the safety of everyone yet help meet the needs of our community. Wash your hands frequently, practice social distance and wear a mask. If you are in need of a mask please let us know.

For those that want to join the online meetings:
Zoom is a reputable and safe online program. It is endorsed by businesses and organizations such as Kiwanis International. You can use your computer, tablet, or mobile device. Steve Hess has volunteered to help talk you through it, just give him a ring.

The Florida Kiwanis District Convention is Going Virtual!

While we will greatly miss the interaction that comes from having our in-person convention, we are very excited about what we have planned in its place and hope you will join us for engagement, fellowship, fun, and education at our  Florida Kiwanis Virtual Convention (VCON).

Throughout the convention we will be providing a compelling keynote, a wide array of informative workshops, the presentation of the 2018-19 Club of the Year and more!

!! There will be no registration fee !!

In addition to education and fellowship, we also have some business to take care of such as electing our 2020-21 district officers. Our district bylaws provide for alternate methods of conducting the business of the district under emergency conditions. As such, we will hold a Delegates-at-Large session on Friday, August 14 (time to be determined). This meeting will be open to anyone who would like to attend but voting for our three unopposed candidates will be limited to our core delegates-at-large only. As stated in the Standard Form for District Bylaws, this consists of the current district officers and past governors who are active members of a club in the district.

Our convention will take place virtually on Friday, August 14 and Saturday, August 15, 2020.

You will be provided with more information about how to access all of the features of this convention as soon as it becomes available but. for now, please save those dates!
