Only $16.99 for this Vibrant 94-Point Spanish Red!

High above the Spanish village of Fitero, brothers Iñaki, Xabier and Mikel Sanz tend to a particularly rocky, organically farmed plot of gnarly Garnacha vines.

Bright and vibrant with thrilling nuance and minerality, their 2016 Viña Zorzal "Malayeto" more closely resembles a Pinot Noir from Burgundy than it does a Garnacha from Navarra. Wine Advocate awards a strong 94-point review to this unique 1,000 case production wine. We are thrilled to have secured a supply, and offer it to you today for just $16.99 per bottle!

2016 Viña Zorzal "Malayeto" Garnacha
Navarra, Spain
Completely fresh and vibrant, the pale ruby/garnet colored 2016 Malayeto is a seriously cool bottle of wine. The product of a once abandoned vineyard that the Sanz brothers nursed back to health, it presents a bright, youthful bouquet followed by nuanced flavors of fresh strawberry and cranberry accented by pepper, spring flowers and a slight suggestion of limestone. With air, these flavors expand on the palate in a wonderful manner.

The impressive texture and mouthfeel, however, are what really steal the show. Medium in body, with medium-plus acidity, medium-plus tannins and a supple roundness, everything is in balance. The elevated minerality and refinement remind us quite a bit of Burgundy! The wine finishes long, with good tension and a texture that is simultaneously chalky and velvety.

"This is a real bargain, one to buy by the case."
-Wine Advocate, December 2018

We work with a lot of Spanish reds. Very few at this price offer such an impressive combination of delicious fruit, terroir-focused minerality and structural sophistication. It is a wonderful wine and a truly remarkable value. Here is the 94-point Wine Advocate review...

"The single-vineyard Garnacha 2016 Malayeto comes from 2.39 hectares of vines averaging 35 years of age in the village of Fitero at 520 meters in altitude on limestone soils. It's a bright ruby colored red, wine with tons of spices, herbs, flowers, notes of bay leaf, thyme and a bright personality. It has a light to medium-bodied palate with unnoticeable oak (it matured in well-seasoned, neutral oak foudres and barrels), with complex stone minerality, a dry and long finish. This is really delicious and a very good value, possibly the freshest of the six Garnachas I tasted from them. Some 12,000 bottles were filled in March 2018. This is a real bargain, one to buy by the case."
