Send your kids or grandkids to
His Hill Christian Camp in Comfort, Texas
| |
|
For the last several summers, we have sent Honor, age 14, and Mercy, age 12. to His Hill Christian Summer Camp for a week. And they LOVED it!
It's the perfect mix of fun activities and Christian discipleship to underscore the lessons which we are teaching at home.
| |
|
Through weekly overnight and day camp sessions, campers enjoy traditional camp activities, engage with Christ-centered staff, and study God’s Word.
His Hill Camp offers a unique, week-long stay in the beautiful Texas Hill Country in Comfort, Texas for boys and girls ages 6-18.
| |
The week is filled with activities such as canoeing, high ropes course, horseback riding, archery, riflery, and more!
Our daughter, Mercy, was enthralled with the horseback riding.
Our son, Honor, really enjoyed learning about how to shoot a rifle. In addition to riflery, he said, "My favorite activity is the Tower Challenge because I like climbing. It gets my adrenaline pumping."
|
While the days are filled with various activities, the nights are geared for cabin bonding as campers learn together from God’s Word, creating lasting memories, and experiencing true fellowship.
They take seriously their commitment to the Lord to lead them to Jesus through daily chapel and devotions times. Their prayer is for every child to leave His Hill with a strengthened faith in our Lord Jesus.
| |
His Hill’s central purpose is to encourage every camper to engage in a living relationship with Jesus Christ and to know the fullness of His indwelling life.
While this is the overarching purpose of daily activities, they make a concentrated effort to present Christ to young people through chapel times and cabin devotions, both of which are held twice daily by their staff.
| |
What makes His Hill unique
Each cabin has no more than an eight-to-one campers to counselor ratio. They believe that having cabins small in size gives them optimal time to disciple and build relationships.
Our daughter, Mercy, in the yellow shirt, said, "When my counselor, Anna, led us six girls in the Mountaineers Cabin in morning devotionals, I could see that she had spent a lot of time studying and writing up her notes so that she could share something good from God's Word. She was a great role model!"
Our son, Honor, age 13, the one wearing glasses, loved spending the week with friends in the Mustangs cabin. Speaking of his cabin counselor, Ander, he said, "He was very patient with us, modeling Christ in a powerful way."
When we dropped Honor off, he climbed up into one of the top bunk beds with his friends Spencer, Sergio and Drew.
|
The year before, Tyler was his counselor in the Cedar Hideout cabin. He sent a touching postcard for Honor's birthday in October. He wrote, "Happy birthday, bud! I wish you the best on this day. I'm so glad God put us in the same cabin. I hope and pray that you would focus on Christ every day. -- Tyler"
Indeed, His Hill counselors are one of the best qualities that makes this camp special.
Every year, 90% of their counselors are volunteers. They've chosen to stay AFTER their 9 months of Bible School. During the school year, from September through May, His Hill is a Gap-Year Discipleship Bible School for international students.
The counselors stay in the homes of the full-time His Hill staff, are part of their discipleship groups, babysit the staff's kids, and truly learn what it means to live life IN Christ.
These are the young people who are serving your children as counselors, photographers, activity instructors, cooks, janitors, and housekeepers. They are the cream of the crop!
| |
The goal of His Hill is not to be the most fun camp or to be the coolest camp.
The goal of the staff is to be ambassadors and stewards of Christ Jesus, because in and through Him, He can make the most simple opportunities and activities truly eternal, profitable, and joyfully fun!
C.S. Lewis said, “Aim at Heaven and you will get Earth thrown in. Aim at Earth and you will get neither.”
| |
His Hill Chapel and Devotions
Every day campers have the opportunity to sing, discover, and learn together of Christ in the His Hill chapels in the morning and the evening.
Counselors and summer staff lead our campers in song, praising the Lord for His goodness and faithfulness in fun-filled and reverent worship songs.
At His Hill Ranch Camp, they desire to lead all campers to Christ as the source of eternal life and the means for the Christian life through verse-by-verse teaching by their resident staff team. Every morning and evening each cabin will open God’s Word together and learn of Christ through counselor-led devotions.
The purpose of these times is to know Christ in His word in a deeper way while giving an opportunity for the campers to share their joys and struggles in their personal lives. Counselors are encouraged to also share truth through God’s word that has been specifically transformative in their personal lives.
| |
Children will be able to participate in six of the nine available activities. In addition to cabin devotions and chapel, campers also learn about the character of Jesus while enjoying exciting activities.
- Riflery
- Archery
- Canoeing (Guadalupe River)
- Tower (High Ropes Course, zip line, screamer, and rock wall)
- Low Elements (Team Building, Low Element Course)
| |
My daughter, Mercy, said, "I like the tower which has this huge swing. It felt like I was flying! It’s cool that the campers, who are waiting in line to go next, pulled me up in the air."
- Game On! (Marshmallow war, Gaga ball, Pickleball, gym games, volleyball)
- Crafts
- Swimming
- Horses (Vaulting and Trail Riding)
During Snack & Swim, campers are free to enjoy the swimming pool, Pickleball, Gaga ball, sand volleyball, tennis, basketball, 4-square, and 9 Square in the Air.
| |
Blowing marshmallows through their marshmallow guns is a hoot!
This boy successfully grabbed one of the golden blocks for his team in a tweaked version of "Capture the Flag."
The Shaving Cream War at the end of the week is a huge highlight.
|
The staff ask each parent to pre-write 5 encouraging letters to be delivered, one a day, at lunch during Mail Call along with a piece of candy or a memento. Honor is pictured above opening our envelope to him for that day. He received a total of 10 separate letters, 5 from me and 5 from Amy.
In Amy’s powerful letter to Honor, delivered on July 5, 2023, she wrote, “Dear Honor, Sometimes in life, you will experience sad or scary times. I want to encourage you to turn to the Lord and lean into Him. Trust God instead of leaning on your own understanding. If you do, He will make your paths straight. Jesus is worthy of your trust!
"The Scripture in Proverbs depicts a father telling his son these things for his good, out of love for his son, and a desire to see him blessed. This father is acknowledging that his son must decide for himself whether he's going to embrace what he has been taught. You will have to make that decision too, Honor, in your own life. Love, Mom"
