A total of 152 horses have been entered into trials for the state's most lucrative race, the Grade 1, Texas Classic Futurity.
The 18 trials will be contested at 400-yards, over two nights. The horses posting the five fastest times from each night will advance to the Futurity final on Saturday, November 19.
This year's purse of $1,209,172.91 for the Texas Classic Futurity sets a record as the largest purse ever for a Quarter Horse race in the State of Texas. The winner of the final will collect more than $538,000.
Already a multiple graded stakes winner, Tres Crystals is set to break from the inside post on Thursday night in Race 5. The gelding, by Tres Seis, out of a Walk Thru Fire mare, Crystal Sola, won both the G1 Heritage Place Futurity and G2, Oklahoma Futurity during a four race win streak earlier this year at Remington Park. Tres Crystals was handed his only defeat in his most recent race, a trial for the All-American Futurity over a sloppy track. Tres Crystals has banked $658,157 this year. The winner of this year's G2, Dash for Cash Futurity, One Perfect Lady, will also see action during the trials. Francisco Calderon has been named to ride the sorrel filly in Race 7 on Saturday for trainer Rolando Almanza. Owned by La Feliz Montana Ranch LLC, the two-year-old daughter of Bogart, out of The Perfect Eagle a One Famous Eagle mare, will break from post position eight.
Josefina Guzman's, Pyc Avenue will look to remain undefeated as he makes his fifth start in the final trial held on Thursday night. The sorrel gelding by Pyc Fun N Fancy, won the RG1, Oklahoma Bred Futurity and has earned $304,221 in his career. Juan Pulido will be aboard the Santos Carrizales, Jr. trainee.
