Great Places to Cycle: Parry Sound District |
|
Whatever type of cyclist you are, enjoy scenic landscapes with picturesque lakes, meandering rivers, the rocky Canadian Shield and the UNESCO designated Georgian Bay Biosphere Reserve.
Road riding in the area is excellent with quieter roads criss-crossing through the rugged landscape with opportunities to stop at quaint general stores, interesting cultural heritage sites, and welcoming communities along the way.
With multi-use trails that wind along the shores of Georgian Bay, mountain biking in select provincial parks like Killbear and on signature trail projects such as the Trans Canada Trail and the Park to Park Trail, the Parry Sound and area is an attractive destination for trail riding enthusiasts.
With 25 bicycle friendly businesses throughout Parry Sound District, you can easily find great places to stay, eat and visit!

Looking for an opportunity to get out and ride in the area with others? Look no further than the fantastic Pedaling for Parkison's, a 3-day event hosted on July 10-12, raising awareness and research funds for Parkinson's.

Gear Up - Preparing Your Bike For Spring |
|
It's cycling season! If you haven't done so already, it`s time to prepare your bike for spring.
H
ere are a couple of things you can do to prepare your bike before you take it to your local shop for a tune-up.
Keep It Clean -
Whether your bike braved the elements or took a leave of absence this winter, it`s always good to keep your bike clean. All you'll need are cleaning rags, an old toothbrush and a bucket of diluted ecofriendly cleaning product (e.g. Simple Green). Scrub down all the nooks and crannies, but beware of getting water into any sealed areas.
Check It Over
- Check the wheels, cables and brakes for any wear and tear or loosening parts. If you have the tools to adjust and tune-up, great. If not, make note of any areas/parts you'd like your local bike shop to look over during the tune up.
Take It In - Bike shops are busy this time of year, so perhaps a call in advance to book a time would help. If you don`t have a favourite bike shop, find one from over 100 bike shops listed on
OntarioByBike.ca/bikeshops.

Featured Business: Pastry Peddler & Frog Cycles |
|
Pastry Peddler is bakery in Millbrook, Ontario that has a reputation for quality baked goods! Did we get your attention?
What's more, they've recently expanded to include more seating, washrooms, an expanded menu and even a second floor!
Along with their new digs, they have a new neighbour, Frog Cycles, who is located upstairs from the bakery. The vintage bike shop, offers repairs, parts, tune-ups and the chance to talk shop! With seating upstairs; why not enjoy a coffee while you wait?
Millbrook is 25km southwest of the city of Peterborough. The surrounding area is popular with road cyclists; meaning you'll have no trouble working up an appetite!
