Open Cities: NY - Paris

In the wake of the volatile situation many refugees face in Europe, and with the Trump Administration's proposed immigration ban and the questioning of US Sanctuary City status, the Institute for Public Architecture is launching the Open City  series. The series will look at the challenges and solutions to supporting and housing vulnerable populations in our city centers, including refugees, emergency shelter populations, and disaster victims.

Co-sponsors: The Irwin S Chanin School of Architecture of The Cooper Union, The Architectural League of New York, AIANY Housing Committee, AIANY Planning & Urban Design Committee.

This event is free and open to the public. RSVP here.

Touring The Shed

Currently under construction on the far west side of Manhattan where the High Line meets Hudson Yards,  The Shed  will be housed in a 200,000-square-foot, six-level structure designed by Diller Scofidio + Renfro in collaboration with Rockwell Group. The radically flexible design of the performative structure can physically and operationally accommodate the broadest range of performance, visual art, music, and multi-disciplinary work. Purpose-built to complement The Shed's programmatic vision, the building is designed to operate in various configurations and to offer multiple events simultaneously.

Prof. Samuel Anderson's Building Technology class toured the project, read his post here.
