Together, we are able to open doors to opportunity.
Dear Friend of The League,
It's scary to think that there once was a world without The League. Almost a century ago, children with disabilities couldn't spend their summers building friendships in the fresh air of the Catoctin Mountains. Stroke survivors and people living with MS didn't have access to rehabilitative support groups where they prioritized their wellness. And adults with disabilities weren't empowered to join the workforce and enjoy independent, fulfilling lives. In 1927, Mrs. Isabel K. Frank took action to improve the quality of life for people with disabilities and founded The League (then named the Maryland League for Crippled Children).
Nearly 100 years later (after a few name and location changes), The League continues to provide people with disabilities, their loved ones, and community members with opportunities to grow and live well, whether they wish to paint a masterpiece, establish a consistent fitness routine, or return to work after a traumatic brain injury. Our mission would not be possible without our generous donors, our selfless volunteers, and our creative and dedicated direct support professionals who go above and beyond to advocate, offer support, and open doors for League participants.
With October serving as Disability Employment Awareness Month, I want to celebrate The League's dedicated employment specialists who work tirelessly to connect individuals with disabilities to meaningful employment. Their efforts are strengthening entire communities with reliability, resilience, and perspectives that benefit everyone. We are proud to embrace inclusion, not just for this month, but year-round.
Together, we are able to keep opening doors to opportunities for the independence, self-sufficiency, and joy that individuals with disabilities deserve. Stay healthy and spooky!
Sincerely,
|
