Open House 2024

Dear DHS Parents and Guardians:

I hope that you and your student(s) are having a wonderful start to the new school year. Just as we have welcomed your student(s) into our school community, we are thrilled to extend a warm invitation to you for our annual Open House on Wednesday, September 4. We hope that you will join us at the Open House to meet our teachers and staff, as well as connect with fellow parents. The event is a fantastic opportunity to explore our campus and get acquainted with the people who will be supporting your student throughout the year.

During Open House, you will follow a brief version of your student’s class schedule, spending 10 minutes in each class to meet their teachers and learn more about the curriculum. Please find the detailed schedule for the evening outlined below. We look forward to seeing you there!

Open House Schedule Notes:

  • Start times. If your student has an Early Bird (EB) class (excluding EB Science) your evening will begin at 6:30 p.m., while all others will start at 6:45 p.m.
  • Attendance. Please attend all classes. Our teachers are excited to meet you!
  • Science labs. You should attend science class only, not the science lab portion. We encourage you to use that time to visit with our parent/guardian organizations at the main entrance or Technology (Schoology and IC support) in the Makerspace (Rm F105).
  • Dovetail classes. You should attend the classes that are on off-lab days (we call them dovetails), such as Study Strategies or Learning Strategies.
  • Student schedule. Please be sure to have a CURRENT copy of your student’s schedule for the evening - such as through the IC app, a picture, or printed version.
  • Linked here is a schedule template if you would prefer to transfer your student's schedule so you know where to go during each period's timeframe. Please note the PE locations.
  • Student progress. Please understand that this evening is not designed to provide you with a report of your child’s progress in the course. If you do have concerns or questions, classroom teachers will provide you with ways to communicate with them in more depth at a later time.

Planning for Open House

We are excited to welcome you to Deerfield High School for Open House on September 4. Please review some important notes below about our special bell schedules the day of and following Open House, as well as transportation details.

  • Special Schedules. To assist you in organizing your planning for Open House, please be aware of the special schedule for students on Wednesday, September 4 (early dismissal at 2:12 p.m.) and Thursday, September 5 (late arrival at 9:05).
  • Transportation. Please be aware that there is limited parking for Open House. As such, we encourage parents and guardians to choose the District 113 provided bus service. Your participation as a bus rider will help eliminate parking problems. A majority of our parents and guardians select this as their method of transportation. This will be the same bus route that our students take each school day. A special bus schedule for the evening will be available on the District 113 transportation webpage
  • Driving & Parking Lot. For those parents/guardians who are not able to use the bus service, we respectfully request that you carpool with friends or neighbors due to the limited parking. Alternatively, if your student is of driving age, reverse roles and have them serve as a chauffeur. If you plan to drive and arrive after 6:10 p.m. it may be challenging to find parking. As such, overflow parking will be available at Bannockburn Plaza (2101 Waukegan Rd.). A shuttle will be provided to transport parents/guardians to and from DHS.

Deerfield High School’s Open House is truly a celebration! The evening provides an opportunity for our staff to proudly share a snapshot of DHS with your family. We look forward to seeing you at Deerfield High School on September 4.

Sincerely,

Dr. Kathryn Anderson, Principal
