2017 - 2018 Orientation / Open House
The Centennial PTSA is once again pleased to be supporting our school by serving as welcome ambassadors for you, our students and parents!
Please follow the checklist outlined below by our principal, Ms. Crumbley, and feel free to ask any Centennial faculty member or PTSA parent volunteer if you need help with anything at all - we are so glad you are at Centennial, where your best days are ahead!
Open the checklist for the appropriate grade level to get more information on what to do before and during Open House. Completing the outlined tasks beforehand will make lines much shorter and give you more time to meet teachers and learn about ways to get involved this year.

If you purchased a PTSA membership by August 2nd during the top locker promotion, please bring proof of your membership purchase (paper or electronic) to receive your Top Locker. Your Paypal receipt (paper or electronic) will suffice.  Locker fees are $20 for all students.

If you have access to a printer, you can also print out your Surface Device User Agreement. Read it, sign it and bring it with you to ensure your student can receive a Surface as soon as they are available for check-out.

TOP LOCKER PROMOTION - Back by Popular Demand!

Join the PTSA no later than August 2, 2017 and be eligible for the Top Locker Promotion.
Here's how it works: For each PTSA membership that you purchase, you receive eligibility to purchase one top locker for your student, subject to availability. Due to the popularity of this promotion last year, we have to limit the number of lockers that we reserve based on the number available in the school. We are running this promotion through August 2nd, but we expect to run out before that, so don't hesitate.
By joining the Centennial PTSA, you show your kids that school is important, you are invested in their success and you ensure parents have a voice when important decisions about our schools are being made.
In addition to supporting Centennial High School & the PTSA, you receive these other benefits:
1.) Your membership donation is tax-deductible.
2.) Your membership card provides you with discounts at Staples, Hertz, Chattahoochee Nature Center, Zoo Atlanta, Papa John's Pizza, and the Alliance Theatre to name just a few.

Note: You will receive an email confirmation/tax receipt within two weeks of joining Please BRING confirmation of joining with you to Open House to receive your top locker.

**The $20.00 CHS Locker Fee is additional. You must pay the PTSA fee prior to 8/2 and THEN you also must pay $20 locker fee at open house. Anyone who wants a school locker must pay the $20 locker fee.**

We are looking forward to conducting one of our new service projects.  It is called:   FBLA's Jeans for Green Project We will be collecting old blue jeans to be donated for recycling. Our goal is to collect 1,000 jeans that will be diverted from landfills, where they might otherwise join the millions of pounds of textiles thrown out every year.  We will be partnering with a local company to repurpose the jeans.  So, we will be collecting old jeans from August until February.  Donations can be made to Mrs. Robinson in Room I18.

The Arts
Centennial Foundation for the Fine Arts (FFA)
Gearing up for a new year.
The FFA has been working backstage to support CHS students in the Fine Arts.  CHS Fine Arts Departments include Chorus, Visual Arts, Drama, Band, and Orchestra.  We need support from the CHS community to be able to enhance the learning experience for all our students this year.
The FFA provides volunteers, funding, and organizational resources to the Fine Arts Department.  Some of the work FFA has done backstage has allowed our students to shine on stage.  Examples include providing scholarships for our outstanding seniors, renovation of the auditorium lobby, and purchasing locks to protect equipment.  Other funds have been used to provide ink cartridges for specialty printers, and music stand lights.
How can you help?  There are many ways for you to get involved and help this organization.  The best way is to join.  Membership levels have special perks, such as parking spaces and reserved seating, so joining can provide you with a fast track to the student events you want to get up close to.
To join, look for our booth at the CHS orientations.  We will have a credit card reader set up.
Thank you for helping to support the Fine Arts at Centennial High School!

PTSA in Action
PTSA Reflections - "Within Reach"
The CHS PTSA Reflections program launches in August and all students are invited to start thinking about ideas for an entry based on this year's theme "Within Reach".
Students can choose from 6 areas of interpretation for their entry: literature, musical composition, photography, visual arts (include drawing, painting, print making and collage), dance choreography and film/video production.
Students' works are judged at the local level and the winning entries advance to the council and state PTA levels.  Top state award winning entries advance to the national level of judging. For more info go to
Use the summer to get started! Reflections entries will be due early October.

Concerned that your teen driver is not prepared to handle the crazy traffic? Ask anyone who's taken this course for their thoughts on how effective it is, how much better their teen driver (and parent) handled basic driving techniques afterward, how much more confident both parent and teen driver felt. Sign up for Accident Avoidance Workshops at a location near you this fall!  Be sure to mention that the Centennial PTSA sent you, as AAW donates a portion of their proceeds from the workshops back to our school. AAW is "driver trainin' the way it ought'a be!"

Remember to Use your Publix Scan Cards!

Do you know that the CHS PTSA has received over $14,000 from Publix over the years?!  That is a lot of money - and it takes no effort at all.  Just use your scan card every time that you make a purchase at Publix.  If you do not have a scan card, you can get one at the front desk.  They are available throughout the school year.  You or your student can pick up extra cards for grandparents, friends and neighbors to use.  Everyone buys groceries, and having these cards scanned when you shop at Publix is an easy way to help CHS PTSA!
