25th ANNIVERSARY PROCLAMATION

This week, members of the CACCC Board of Directors and staff were present at the Plano City Council meeting for the reading of the proclamation of the 25th Anniversary of Children's Advocacy Center of Collin County. Mayor Harry LaRosiliere declared, "I do hereby proclaim Monday, April 23, 2018 as "Children's Advocacy Center of Collin County Day", and I do thereby encourage all citizens to join me and the Plano City Council in working to ensure that all children are healthy and safe".

Lynne McLean, CEO stated, "We are so grateful to our community for the support you have shown for this cause over the past 25 years. You have helped us grow from a staff of 3, offering services to 10% of the children needing help…to a staff of 49 offering services to 100% of children victimized by abuse.  But most of all, we are proud of the fact that you have helped us to do work that changes the lives, and futures, of the abused and neglected children in our community".

Thank you Collin County, for your ongoing support of our mission!
CONVERSATIONS WITH KIDS

Being a protective parent involves having conversations with your kids to prepare them for what they might face in life. Some of these conversations can be awkward or uncomfortable, but it is vital to have them. We sat down with parents from Child Protective Services, Law Enforcement, and CAC Staff to discuss how they handled tough topics with their own children at the Pre-K, Elementary, Middle, and High School level.
STRENGTHENING RELATIONSHIPS

Tina was referred to the center after being sexually abused by her step-father. She presented with aggressive behavior, daily nightmares, and high anxiety. Her mother struggled with how to help her, so Tina’s therapist decided to see them together. After months of therapy, Tina and her mother saw an improvement in their relationship and a reduction in Tina’s symptoms. Tina is now more confident, able to voice her feelings in a positive way, and has learned to seek support from her mother. It is because of their patience and continued choice to learn how they can better work together that Tina and her mother have been able to have a healthier relationship. Tina’s step-father’s case goes to court next month and Tina will benefit from her mother’s support now more than ever.
