As Ontario continues to endure a second wave of COVID-19, restaurants are being singled out and deserve to understand why. An increasing number of jurisdictions are being targeted with heightened restrictions, including indoor dining closures. Yet no data has been provided that points to restaurants being the source of transmission.
On behalf of Ontario’s vital foodservice sector, we are calling for:
- Clear and transparent data to understand what is driving government decisions related to dining restrictions.
- Consultation with industry to address any concerns identified by the data.
A collaborated letter initiated by ORHMA and supported by 35+ leaders of the foodservice community in Ontario has been shared with the Premier's office as well as the media. This initiative calls for the government to stop system wide closures and publicly disclose their transmission data while highlighting the significant investment in PPE and safety measures taken by foodservice operators across the province.
