Our Open Space Is Open!
Dry Run Creek
in West Amwell
Located in West Amwell, just north of Howell Living History Farm,
the trail at Dry Run Creek descends through woods into the steep-sided valley.
It then gradually climbs north, sometimes skirting the charming ledge-bound creek, passing over three rustic bridges and an old dam.
The trail climbs up out of the creek valley, sometimes on stone stairways,
to its north end at Route 518.
A second trail system, leading to the edge of Lambertville, starts directly across Route 518 and is known as t
he Rockhopper Trail.
Dry Creek Run in West Amwell is a great place to connect with the natural world.
"Look closely at nature. Every species is a masterpiece,
exquisitely adapted to the particular environment
in which it has survived.
Who are we to destroy or even diminish biodiversity?"
- E. O. Wilson
From the folks at
Harvard Medical School
:
"...
interacting with natural spaces offers ... therapeutic benefits.
For instance, calming nature sounds and even outdoor silence can lower blood pressure and levels of the stress hormone cortisol,
which calms the body's fight-or-flight response."
Dry Run Creek is wet at this time of year.
"
People are realizing for the first time, or the thousandth time:
The open spaces we protect are more than the icing on the cake;
they are indeed the cake, critical to our lives, our health, our happiness."
- Linda Mead, President & CEO, D&R Greenway Land Trust
