Pastor Trudy's Message

Scarcity and surprising abundance. Scarcity can sneak up on us- not having enough time or resources or energy. Abundance is God’s response. Sometimes in surprising ways and through surprising people.

Good and gracious God, You are abundance. When we are feeling like there isn’t enough or we aren’t enough, help us to notice and then to look eagerly for Your response. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Why drive 9 hours to help people when there are people that need help closer to home?

• Bless the church you have called into being across time and space, and fill it with the power of the Spirit for loving service.
• As grains of wheat grow upon the earth and fish swim in the waters, sustain your creation. Protect harvests and give every person food in due season.
• Bless the work of humanitarians and peacekeepers, shield those who live, work, or serve in harm’s way, and bring an end to war and conflict.
• We remember any who are sick or suffering, families in our community who endure hunger, those who seek asylum or citizenship, and our beloved for whom death is near.
• As you inspired our ancestors in this place in their ministry, sustain us also in new endeavors, that your glory may be made known, and your lovingkindness shared anew.
• Youth Mission Trippers and chaperones as they finish up their time in Eastern Kentucky and make their drive home.
• Vacation Bible Camp campers and counselors as we head into VBC week on Monday.
• We surround with our prayers the families of Betty Zimmerman and Anne Johanson Ingold who died this week.

Holy God, holy and merciful: into your outstretched arms we commend ourselves and all for whom we pray, trusting in the one who is the way, the truth, and the life, Jesus Christ our Savior and Lord. Amen.

A letter recently went out to all members regarding the Making Space Campaign. It was brought to our attention that the email address for Kraig Mickelsen listed in the letter is incorrect. If you'd like to contact Kraig regarding a foundational gift, the correct email address is kraig@krmfinancial.com.

On behalf of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church of Elgin let me extend my sincere thanks and gratitude for the wonderful breakfast casseroles provided by the parishioners of Geneva Lutheran Church.

With little notice the Vineyard Church of Elgin decided to take a sabbatical from serving their daily breakfast to the needy of our community.

Holy Trinity partnered with our Soup Kettle partners to serve breakfast for two-week sabbatical that ends this Saturday.

The 10 casseroles you prepared were delicious and greatly appreciated by the approximately 50 guests we served each day.

Thanks again to your wonderful parish.

Take care,

Bob
