THIS DOCTOR'S DREAM
OFFICE LOCATION
After more than ten years in practice with her mentor in Sacramento, neuropsychologist Keiko Miller, Psy.D. , decided she was ready to open her own practice. After extensive research in and around the Walnut Creek area, Dr. Miller found her dream location and launched Aspire Neuropsychological Services, Inc. , in July 2017 in Shadelands at 2815 Mitchell Drive, Suite 128, in Walnut Creek Executive Park, managed by The Koll Company.

A specialty in the broad field of psychology, neuropsychology deals with brain-behavior relationships. In her work, Dr. Miller performs assessments and evaluations for an extensive list of health issues including learning disabilities, ADHD, cognitive impairments, dementia, and autism—a field in which she has worked for 16 years. She also works with the State of California performing disability evaluations and with veterans who are suffering PTSD.

Referred by parents, teachers, and physicians, Dr. Miller works with patients as young as 12 months, and with others well into their 90s.

Dr. Miller was attracted to Shadelands’ easily accessible location, patient/visitor amenities, park setting, and welcoming outdoor spaces. “There’s nowhere else I’d rather be," she says.
Her goal is to create a relaxing, safe, comfortable environment for patients who often come in with stress and anxiety.

"Some are fearful, and you don’t know what kind of a day they’ve had," she says. "My sunlit office in this building, in this complex of offices, in this beautiful setting allows me to do just that."

CRANES, CONCRETE, AND CONSTRUCTION AT VIAMONTE
Folks who enter Shadelands from Oak Grove Road & Shadelands Drive or from North Via Monte can’t help but notice the high-profile construction activity going on in the northwest corner of The Orchards 25-acre shopping and lifestyle center. Integrated into the overall design of The Orchards with special attention to building materials and color choices, Viamonte of Walnut Creek is a development of Sequoia Living (previously NCPHS) and is the first dynamic senior living and continuing-care retirement community in Contra Costa County.

Viamonte held its official ground breaking on May 15, 2018, and just a year later, with construction 36% complete on the 3.8-acre property and 92% of its 174 independent living units pre-sold, the four-story, concrete, LEED-certified Viamonte is on track to open in the fall of 2020. A big milestone, according to Dave Latina, Vice President Business Development, will be the completion of the concrete pours.

“Once the pours are done, we’ll see a ramping up of the other trades coming on the site, such as MEP (mechanical, electrical, and plumbing), sheetrockers, and framers. All the windows are onsite and being installed now.”

Designed and constructed to withstand any number of hazards and natural disasters, Viamonte’s all-concrete building will provide greater levels of safety and security for seniors, especially those who are non-ambulatory. Concrete buildings are also quieter, buffering the sounds of TVs, radios, and conversations in neighboring units.

Sequoia Living is a 501(c)(3) that offers housing and services to seniors in northern California. In addition to 174 independent living units, Viamonte will have 17 assisted living units. The general contractor is Cahill Construction and the architect is HKIT Architects.

RIBBON CUTTING AT
THE ORCHARDS
The Lash Lounge , an eyelash extension salon, held its ribbon cutting last December 2018, and still considers itself in a grand opening state of mind. With five stations and multiple certified lash stylists, The Lash Lounge works exclusively with eyelashes and eyebrows, helping women save time on their morning and evening beauty and makeup routines.

Another consideration: age. With age, as eyelashes become sparse, lash extensions can fill in along the lash line, restoring a more natural and healthy look with a set of eyelashes customized for each person's face, eyes, and lifestyle.

Franchise owner Kirby Kinkead plans to open three salons in the East Bay and chose The Orchards for his first Lash Lounge location on the strength of the community. Drawn to the energy and spirit of The Orchards and its strong retail presence in Walnut Creek, he also appreciates the diversity and engagement of Shadelands businesses and visitors.

The Lash Lounge has developed valuable relationships within The Orchards community and has partnered with other beauty and health & wellness services to promote and grow their businesses.
