Congratulations to Batavia Popcorn Depot!
After a yearlong wait, the Batavia Chamber of Commerce was delighted to celebrate the new ownership of the historic Batavia Popcorn Depot with a ribbon cutting ceremony on Thursday, June 3. Dating from 1929, the shop was purchased in spring 2020 by Batavian Talitha Mueller. According to Talitha, ownership of the popular seasonal business located at 1 N. Water Street is a “dream come true.”

Mayor Jeffery Schielke presided over the celebration, along with Talitha and her husband, Dave. Special guests of Talitha were Robert-George Merrill, a member of Batavia Boy Scout Troop 6 who organized and built planter boxes for the Batavia Popcorn Depot as an Eagle Scout project. Talitha also has a group of special helpers who assist her in operating the shop, including Eleanor who stood by Talitha’s side during the ribbon cutting.

The Batavia Popcorn Depot originated in 1929 by two 12-year-old Batavians, Buddy Anderson and Normie Freedlund, who with the help of their fathers built the stand. Through the years, the stand’s owners, location, and the name has changed, but the one thing that remains constant is Batavia’s love of popcorn and the historic stand. Menu choices include the original white corn, caramel corn, cheese corn, a mix of caramel and cheese corn, or the “BOB” caramel and white mix.

Summer hours for the Batavia Popcorn Depot are Wednesday – Sunday from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Catering and private orders are available upon request and other popup hours are likely. Area Chamber of Commerce Leaders Gather in Batavia
We were excited to host executives of area Chambers of Commerce on Wednesday, June 2. First up was a delicious lunch from Oak + Swine, followed by an excellent explanation from Jamie Saam about the Batavia Boardwalk Shops. After lunch, we all walked across Wilson Street to check them out. We greatly appreciate the Boardwalk Shop businesses who graciously opened so these other towns could witness what an amazing business incubator concept we have here in Batavia!

Introducing...Oak + Swine, Winner of a 2020 Ole Award in the Commercial Remodeling Category

We are continuing with our introductions of the award winners honored at the Inspire 2021 event on May 20th.

This week, we are honoring Oak + Swine, 107 E. Wilson Street, winner of an Ole in commercial remodeling. Byron Weber, owner, accepted the award for this popular Batavia restaurant that features Texas-style barbeque, along with a growing selection of of outstanding bourbons. The Ole Awards are given to businesses for a significant improvement and investment either for new construction or for remodel in Batavia.
