Happenings in and around the Chamber!
Welcome to Our New Member!

Happy Monday!

With COVID-19 numbers surging, we can all use some positive news! How about a 2 for 1 Chamber Bucks promotion to add cheer?

Today is the first day you can purchase up to $50 in Chamber Bucks and we will give you the equivalent amount of Holiday Chamber Bucks for free. You use them just as you would Chamber Bucks, but they expire on March 31, 2021. And, the local businesses who accept them – nearly 70 different merchants, restaurants and service providers – get the full amount, just as though you paid them in cash.

The Batavia Chamber of Commerce is financing the matching Holiday Chamber Bucks. We do urge you to stop by soon, because once we issue $2,500 of promotional bucks, this promotion ends. It is a win for you and a win for our local businesses, who desperately need you to shop local during this holiday season! Call us with a credit card and we will mail them to you.

Shopping Safely While Supporting Local

Last week’s stay-at-home advisory by Governor Pritzker has our businesses once again facing the dilemma of how to safely operate. Tough decisions to be made, by both shoppers and the businesses.

Along with Batavia MainStreet, we are hosting a discussion on Tuesday morning about how to amp up your online sales, book private shopping and more. Scroll down for more information.

We also urge you to watch a short message by Mayor Schielke about supporting our businesses during these trying times. Scroll down to watch it and remember to shop local!

Kane County Health Department Updates

Last week, KCHD updated several of their COVIC-19 guidance toolkits to reflect new information and guidelines. You can download the Business and Organization toolkit here. The Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity updated their essential business guidelines last week as well, to access, click here.

Many of you have been viewing Mayor Schielke’s weekly videos. You can access last week’s November 13th video by clicking this link. This week, the mayor pays tribute to Batavia veterans, as well as to Reverend Truman Hazelwood, who recently passed away. Rev. Hazelwood served for a time as a Chaplain with the Batavia Police and Fire Departments. Mayor Schielke also urges everyone to support our local business community for carryout and holiday shopping.

Please scroll down for many upcoming events and other content - including this week's Member Insider with Jamie Saam. If you have news to share, remember to send it to us! We continually update our home page, bataviachamber.org when new resources and information comes out. Also, check our calendar for new events from us and the community.

Our local businesses need all of our support – please remember to shop and dine local! As always, we are now, and will be in the future, here for you.

Most sincerely,

Margaret, Patti and Shirley

Last Monday, we receive a call from Chris Coffey of NBC-5 in Chicago looking to interview Batavia businesses who would be impacted by another stay-at-home order due to surging COVID-19 cases. We helped connect him with multiple Batavia businesses; some were then featured in a news story that evening. You can watch the segment here: https://bit.ly/BataviaNBC5

Welcome to this week's Member Insider! We are excited for you to learn more about your fellow Batavia Chamber members. We are beginning the series with our hard-working Board of Directors. To gain insight into our esteemed members, we are asking them to answer a total of 20 questions.

This week, we’ll learn a bit more about Jamie Saam. For those who know Jamie, you realize she is an amazing person and is definitely a "doer." She even answered more than the requisite 20 questions! Jamie is an owner at two Batavia businesses: Bulldog Plumbing, Inc., with her husband Doug; and LocalConnect LLC. At Bulldog Plumbing, established in 2011 – and a BCoC member for 10 years, she manages the office and fulfills all marketing functions. LocalConnect was founded – and joined BCOC - in 2018. In this role, she offers social media marketing assistance and other consulting to small businesses. Jamie just completed her first year as a BCoC board member. She is also on the Ambassador committee. To read the entire post - and trust us - you want to get all the inside information, head over to our blog: https://bit.ly/JamieSaam

News and Updates from Our Members
Yes! It’s that time again….. Underwear Party (and socks too)...in support of the Batavia United Way / Batavia School District annual Holiday Adopt-A-Family Program. This has been quite a year and there is a much greater need for these families.

Due to Covid restrictions we will not be allowed to gather together this year. BUT, do not worry we have come up with some creative ways to support these Batavia families.

1) BASKETS...Yes you can still bid on our fabulous baskets. We will be holding a silent auction for these wonderful baskets. Bid often and generously at www.biddingowl.com/BataviaLionsClub

2) Underwear/Socks drop off. We will have a drive thru lane set up at Pal Joeys from 5-8. Drop off New underwear or socks and you will AUTOMATICALLY be entered in a drawing for a Wine Tasting Home Party.

3) Order dinner from Pal Joeys from 5-8 p.m., mention the Underwear Party, and they will generously donate 20% to Adopt-A-Family.

These families especially need our help this year. So, thank you in advance for your generosity! Happy Bidding!
The Batavia Counselors' Collaboration continues to work to bring information and help to the community. They recently launched a website, you can explore it here.

A couple other links to check out are their Facebook page, as well as a YouTube channel.
Nominations Accepted Until December 9!

The Batavia Environmental Commission is awarding local businesses each year that are taking steps to become more sustainable. If you are a business owner or know one that has been making green changes to their business, encourage them to submit an application. Last year's winner was Millcreek Early Education Center. The award will be presented in May 2021 at the annual Inspire event. Click here for the application.
