A Note from Scott and Marsha
January 5, 2023
New Year, New You? Happiest of happy 2023 to you! You have successfully completed five days of your 2023 goals and are excited for January! If you have not set goals for the new year, you are one of many and currently reading in a judgement-free zone.
Now that we have all returned from our long winter nap, we are scurrying around planning for spring in the Garden Center. Mariah, our Garden Center Manager, and all our department leads are working hard to make sure we have everything we need to make your experience with us amazing.

The last story of 2022 was related to our Christmas party, grateful hearts, and kind words. I wanted to share more and start 2023 off on an even happier note.
At year end, we asked our employees to vote on an Employee of the Year. Having three divisions, it was fun to see the results.

For our Lawn Maintenance Division, AmberLeigh won. She has super powers and can effectively move mountains and change an unhappy customer into her best friend. She sincerely cares about everything. While she is typing with one hand, she uses the other to keep Dylan and Andrew on track. Occasionally they are so in tune with one another, they wear the same color to work. This gives the rest of us in the office an opportunity to tease them relentlessly!
In our Landscape Division, we had a three way tie! When you think you are happy with one awesome employee and find out you have three, you sigh. Shawn joined us in the fall and has added an incredible dynamic to the team. Josh has been with us for over three years and is like a swiss army knife: he can do it all. Adrian, who I affectionately call Papa, has been with us almost four years, is hardworking, and always smiling -- he is on the landscape crew at 66 years old!
And lastly, our Garden Center Division had many honorable mentions but one employee stood out to the entire group. Teresa started with us in late spring and all everyone can say is "Wow." Her experience, encouragement, and get-it-done attitude has made everyone happy and they love working with her. She was so humbled when she found out at breakfast that she cried, which made all the FGS resident criers cry!
What a great way to end 2022 and even better way to begin 2023. We can't wait to see you!

GARDEN CENTER FEATURES
PEPEROMIA
This beauty is one of the most commonly grown, low-maintenance, and pet-friendly houseplants. There are over 1,000 species which means there has to be at least one that will grow well in your home! Peperomias need bright, indirect light and infrequent watering. Reminder: this is a plant that will stick to being on the smaller side, not getting too big.
ANNUAL WINTER CONTAINER

Annual winter containers are perfect for brightening up the dull days winter brings us. These multi-colored winter-hardy annuals come in containers already creatively made and filled!
SANGO KAKU

This tree is also known as the Coral Bark Japanese Maple, noted for its coral-red bark that is particular showy in the fall and winter after the leaves drop. The Sango Kaku is a slow to moderate growing tree that will want to be planted in full sun to partial shade and in moist, well-drained soil. With a dusting of snow, these are magical in the garden!

RARE PLANT OF THE WEEK
AMYDRIUM ZIPPELIANUM

Amydrium Zippelianum is a beautiful Aroid with dark green palm-like leaves. The leaves sprout far apart on a vining stem. This plant likes bright, indirect light and will need a support structure.
