An Excerpt from Veronica Grieco
|
My journey with the academy began as a junior engaging in exploration of renewable resources and energy. Throughout my time with the academy, I have served as a participant, junior staff, an ambassador, and a mentee in the Mentorship program. I attended the academy in 2021 as a participant and learned so many valuable skills and how to have confidence in male-dominated fields. All these skills have helped me further explore my dream major of computer science and how to get there. As junior staff I took insights from prior participation in the academy and shared it with the incoming students.
Membership within this group allowed me the ability to explore STEM related careers develop leadership skills and network with executives in my intended field. As a mentee I meet monthly with Exelon executives to explore their experiences in the field and to gain their insights and advice on entering the world of STEM. As an ambassador of the program, I have hosted webinars on topics such as solar, hydro, and wind power to elementary aged girls. As a member of this community this experience allowed me to explore a field of interest while paying it forward to younger like-minded women. This community has provided me many opportunities to become a leader and I am forever grateful for the ever-growing network that I am thankful to be a part of.
