Parent Meeting…TONIGHT

 Thursday, September 18, at 6:15 p.m.

Our parent meeting is for all school families, regardless of grade level.

Our school committees will each do a short presentation and be available to answer questions about fundraising, volunteering, activities, and events.

The teachers will also be available in their classrooms after the presentation to share more information regarding their classroom procedures and specific grade-level activities.

We look forward to seeing you there!

Out of Uniform Day:

Tomorrow, Friday, September 19th, will be an out-of-uniform day.

Students can choose to wear their favorite team jersey or just their favorite outfit.

Shorts, jeans, or athletic pants are acceptable with a top that covers the shoulders and midriff. Inappropriate images, advertisements, or messages on clothing are not allowed.

Please remember, if girls choose to wear a pair of leggings, their tops should be long enough to completely cover their bottoms.

School Safety Review:

Welcome to a new school year! I hope everyone has adjusted from summer mode back to our school routine. We are off to a great start. In light of the recent violence in our country, many families have had questions regarding our own school safety.

I’d like to take this opportunity to share some of the things that we, as a staff, have in place and have been working on.

  • Our school building is equipped with 32 interior and exterior cameras. All doors are equipped with a camera. The exterior cameras that were recently added provide visibility around the entire building, including the church.
  • All entry doors to the school (front door, parish hall door, and ramp door) are armed with a monitor and buzzer. Nobody can enter the building without being acknowledged and verified.
  • Our building is equipped with a panic button, which immediately alerts the Washington County Sheriff’s Department when activated.
  • Our classroom doors are kept locked and closed during the school day. They are also fitted with a Nightlock device for added security in case of a lockdown.
  • We have implemented the “i luv you guys” standard response protocol, which includes procedures for 5 emergency situations (Hold, Secure, Lockdown, Evacuate, and Shelter). These drills are discussed and practiced throughout the school year, along with our fire drills.
  • We work very closely with the Washington County Sheriff’s Department and the Richfield Fire Department. They visit frequently, conduct walk-throughs, provide training, talk to our students, and even supervise some of our drills.
  • We are also very grateful to have the assistance of Penny Schmitt, one of our school parents. Penny works with our safety committee and provides her expertise and advice in the area of school safety. She keeps us up to date with training and the latest information.

We are very blessed to have all of these things in place. We will continue to stay vigilant and do everything we can to help keep our school a safe place to learn and grow.

School-Wide Behavior Management Program:

While each classroom has its own behavior management plan, this year, we are working on developing and implementing a school-wide behavior management program for students throughout the building.

A committee has been formed, and they are currently working on the framework for a program that will address behaviors that need to be corrected and recognize behaviors that need to be celebrated.

Once written, it will be shared with our school commission for input, “tweaked” where needed, and then sent to Fr. Tim for approval.

We hope to pilot this program in the second semester in some of our grades and then add it to our discipline policy in the handbook for the next school year.

Spring Parent/Teacher Conferences:

Input from our end-of-year survey showed that some families would be interested in having time set aside in the spring for parent/teacher conferences.

While all of our in-service days are already booked with professional development activities, we will be able to set aside the afternoon of Friday, February 6th, if you would like to schedule a time to meet with your child’s teacher.

While the fall conferences on the 23rd and 24th of October are mandatory, the spring conferences will be optional for families. More information will be sent out to families closer to the date.

With that being said, our early childhood teachers will be out of the building that day for professional development at the Archdiocese office, so early childhood conferences will need to be scheduled on a different day. We are still working out some of the details. More information will be sent out to families at a later date.

Picture Retake Day:

Network Photography will be here for retakes on Friday, September 26th, from 9-10 a.m. If you received a picture package and wish to have the photo retaken, please send the original photos to school with your child on the day of photo retakes.

They will be taking orders for yearbooks in January. You will not be able to order them until then. The link will be sent out as soon as we get it.

Any questions regarding picture day, please contact info@networkphoto.net or call 262-677-8662.

Medication at School:

The distribution of non-prescription medicine at school should not be a routine/regular practice. Prescription medicine must be accompanied by a Prescription Medicine Form that is completed and signed by their doctor (see links below). If your child has an allergy and requires an EPI-Pen or other medication, an Allergy Action Plan should be completed, signed by their physician, and returned to the office.

Reminder: Students should be fever-free (without medication) and have no instances of vomiting for 24 hours before returning to school after an illness. If they are experiencing discomfort (headaches, persistent cough, sneezing, etc.), they should stay home. If your child sees a physician for their illness, please remember to request a medical excuse for their absence from school. This should be turned in to the office upon their return.

Below is the school/archdiocese policy regarding the distribution of medication at school, as well as the links to the appropriate forms. These forms may be also be found on our back-to-school webpage.

A Big THAK YOU to 13 school families who have already sold/purchase their 10 calendar raffles!

Get ready, Hawks! Formerly known as the Catholic Schools Walk, this year we are proud to introduce The March of the Hawks—a celebration designed and led by our School Commission. From October 6-10, our students and families will come together for events that blend faith, fellowship, and fun with plenty of physical activity and the natural beauty of our campus.

While this is a fundraiser to benefit our school, our greater goal is to strengthen the bonds of our St. Gabriel family and to joyfully live out our Catholic faith—side by side, step by step.

Please watch for more information to be shared with you soon, but in the meantime, mark your calendar for the March of the Hawks – Friday, October 10.

  • Complete a short training session
  • Earn $500 toward your school tuition (per shift: maximum of 2 shifts per family)

If you are not able to commit to a shift each week, day-to-day volunteer opportunities may be available throughout the school year on iVolunteer. While these shifts are not a part of the tuition reduction program, it is still an opportunity to get involved.

Awards Ceremony

On Wednesday, we were formally presented with the two Exemplary Recognition Awards by Associate Superintendents, Mary Tretow and Bruce Varick, from the Archdiocese of Milwaukee.

These awards are a reflection of the hard work, dedication, and unwavering support of our teachers, staff, school families, and parish community. We are incredibly proud of this shared accomplishment and all that it represents.

Please click the video below to watch the presentation from yesterday during our school Mass.

Last Wednesday, the Mass intention was for Sister Therese Marie.

Below is her message from that day...

" Thank you again for the Holy Mass last Wednesday. I really felt the graces that day. Here are pictures from my time of adoration in the Original Shrine.

Blessings to you as well!  Greetings to everyone, especially all the staff and my former students!

Sr. Therese Marie"

In The Classrooms!

Middle School Science

Our 7th graders are busy exploring heat transfer and thermal energy—testing the best ways to melt ice and diving into thermal contraction and expansion.

Meanwhile, our 8th graders are putting Earth’s age into perspective by converting it to a 100-foot scale.

The 8th graders were also busy diving into the world of genetics!

To make learning both fun and memorable, they used candy to model DNA and explore how the nucleobases pair together to form the building blocks of life.

This hands-on activity helped students visualize complex concepts in a creative way.

Next, they’ll continue their study by learning how DNA replicates—a key step in understanding how traits are passed on from one generation to the next.

K5:

Last week, our K5 students learned about Noah and the importance of following God’s plan. Their activity reminded them that “Noah did exactly what God wanted him to.”

Afterwards, they enjoyed center time, practicing sharing, teamwork, and perseverance—living out those lessons in their play.
