When Joidon’s medical journey first began, he was too young to make art himself, but our team still found ways to connect with him and his family. We painted and laminated his favorite cartoon characters so he could hold them close, and during long hospital days his siblings spent hours creating in the playroom.
Joidon’s brother, Jamiyan, had a natural talent for art and became the first sibling featured in our Patient Art Exhibition. Once Jamiyan’s piece went up at Wolfson Children’s Hospital, it became their ritual to visit it together every time Joidon was in the hospital.
“No matter what mood I’m in, passing by his artwork always brightens up my day.”
Joia, Joidon’s mom
Joidon always hoped one day his own art would be on the wall too. This year, Joidon passed away, but his story continues through art. Jamiyan is now creating a new piece in Joidon’s memory, using meaningful elements like Joidon’s handprints to honor their bond and the comfort they found through creativity.
