It's been a wild few years on eggs. Two rounds of bird flu constricted supply nationwide and drove up prices.
We struggled to keep up with demand. We can't flip a switch and create more eggs. It takes a long time. Even if we could hatch a chick right now, it would be 20 weeks until we start collecting eggs.
So over the last few year's we've been growing the flocks - more space, more nesting boxes, more water lines, etc. It's an investment and takes time.
Now, we have more hens and more eggs than ever, and they are laying better than ever. But now the frenzy for eggs has subsided...and we have excess eggs! Did you all just stop eating eggs?
So this week, we have a few good egg-centric deals.

| | It's been a bountiful season so far! The Produce category is loaded with extra a la carte veggies and fruits. Some notables for the week: | | |
August Fruit Basket - $19.75
The collision of summer and fall has given us a great selection. Includes:
Apples, Paula Red - 3#
Nectarines, 2#
Castleton Plums - 1 quart
Honeydew Melon - 1
| | |
Watermelons
They are much larger than last week and at the optimal flavor. 3 options to select from:
Crimson Sweet - large, super sweet flesh with seeds. An old fashioned classic.
Jadestar - a dark rind, red seeded watermelon
Yellow Doll - bright yellow flesh, dark black seeds, and sweet flavor
Red Seedless Watermelon - delicious and seedless, perfect for the whole family.
| | |
Muskmelons
They are much larger than last week and at the optimal flavor. 3 options to select from:
Cantaloupe - large, sun ripe melons. The dry weather the last two weeks has improved flavor, texture, and shelf life.
Honeydew, Crenshaw - a smooth, tender flesh with mild sweet flavor.
| | |
Blackberries
We thought they were done last week, but looks like they will give for one more week.
Either by the pint or 2 pints and save.
| | |
Peaches
The season is in full swing
Flaming Fury - a orange/yellow flesh with firm texture, true free stone, and great flavor
White Peaches - floral nose, less acid, and easy eating.
Sold by the 2# bag as well as cost saving half pecks and pecks.
| | |
Pears and Plums
Castleton Plums
Sweet and tart prune plum, blue skin with yellow flesh.
Bartlett Pears - pears for your heirs...as the fruit guys say. Pears are a long term investment making supply tight and demand strong. We'll cherish these jewels while we have them these next couple weeks!
| |
|
Apples
The first good summer eating apples are in. Until now, most of the early season apples are saucers. These are plenty good for fresh eating.
Ginger Gold - crisp with a tart touch.
Dandee - similar to Paula Red, with improved crunch and bright white flesh
Paula Red - classic red appearance, firm but not snappy. Parentage of McIntosh give it similar characteristics. Good for fresh eating now, then a good baker and saucer in a few weeks.
