August 30, 2023 - Issue 4

It's almost been a week....

Congratulations! We have made it through an entire week of school. I hope you are all doing well, adapting to new schedules, learning everyone's names, and meeting new friends. As Fr. Deo said at our opening Mass this morning, today is a fresh start. As we are all given a chance to make a new start, why not try something new this year at EC. Please look ahead to the Club and Service Fair on September 14 and discover ways you can become involved in the EC community and beyond. High school is your chance to break out of your shell and find that hidden talent. Make the best of your fresh start!

Please review all of the information regarding attendance. We greatly appreciate your cooperation so that we are aware of your students' plans. Please use the attendance@elyriacatholic.com email to keep us updated. Thank you!

Thank you to those students, faculty, and staff who have submitted your t-shirt size for your FREE EC t-shirt. For those who have not completed the form, please click the link below today. The deadline is extended until tomorrow, Thursday, August 31.

Enjoy your evening!

Attendance News

Attendance

If your son or daughter is going to be absent for the day, has an appointment or will be either late or leaving early please email attendance@elyriacatholic.com.

Medical Appointments

If they have a medical appointment scheduled during the school day, please ask the doctor's office for a note note stating they were at the appointment. We can then mark the absence accordingly.

Absences

Students can only miss approx. 9 days of school a year excused or unexcused. Medical Excuses do not count towards the 9 days of absences.

Pre-Arranged Absences

If students know they are going to miss school ahead of time, they must fill out a pre-arranged absence form. They can be found in the main office.

Tardies

Students must arrive at school and be in homeroom by 8 a.m. They will be considered tardy if they arrive between 8 and 8:20. If they arrive after 8:20, it will be considered a class cut and we will need an email from the parent stating the reason for the late arrival.

Registration forms can be found outside the Campus Ministry offices. (Please note-this is a scheduled day off of school. The bus itinerary has us returning around 5pm; however, it is senior night for all fall sports and I can't make any promises we will be back in time for the celebration!)

Fr. Deo is EC's New Chaplain

Elyria Catholic is excited to welcome Fr. Deogratias Ruwaainenyi (Fr. Deo) as our new chaplain! Fr, Deo was appointed by Bishop Malesic earlier this month to serve at EC this school year and to provide a priestly presence to students and staff. He will be here on Thursday mornings, starting with Mass in the Our Lady of Grace Chapel before school at 7:30am. He will remain in the school for several hours to hear confessions, meet with students, and visit classrooms. Fr. Deo celebrated our opening liturgy on August 30, where he commissioned 17 new Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion. He currently serves as the Parochial Vicar for the Avon Catholic Community, which includes both Holy Trinity and St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception parishes. Prior to that, he served for many years as chaplain at Fairview Hospital.

We are happy to welcome Fr. Deo to the Panther Family!
