Moodus Noises: Stories and Science by Alison Guinness

Alison Guinness has been researching the Moodus Noises for decades and has been fascinated by these local earthquakes for many years. Her photo here shows the opening of the Cave looking outward.

The 'Moodus Noises' have fascinated people for hundreds of years or more. Alison will describe the experience of the Indigenous peoples and the early settlers, and the scientific explanations for the Noises in the 19th and 20th centuries. Today, we can see the earthquakes in real time on our seismometer, and you can see them on our large TV screen!

This event is free for members and children under 12, with a suggested donation of $5.00 for nonmembers.

We have a treat for you as we unveil scores of beautiful wedding dresses, all tied to East Haddam, that span from 1852 to the 1990s. Perhaps you were a guest at one of these weddings! This exhibit is a first view of the exquisite handiwork and changing styles over the years. The dresses in this photo hail from 1929 and 1931.

This new exhibit will premier on Friday evening, May 30th, from 7 - 9 PM. Join us for the Opening Reception!
