Using Richard Wagner's Ring Cycle as a template, The Way Out Is A Trap (TWOIAT) is a protracted, multi-disciplinary, obsessive record of an individual's struggles and conclusions with self-awareness.
Using video, mathematics, statistics, handwriting, sewing, card shuffling, walking and psychotherapy, TWOIAT ventures to elicit the tenets of contemporary self-motivated individualism.
The project has been divided into very specific and differing sections that will continue to be executed over many years to come. There are series of consistent requirements that are to be shared by each section; one being that some significant experience accompanies each of them.
Begun in Canada in 2006 and further developed in Spain and Argentina, TWOIAT is by design, a project that most likely will not be completed within the lifetime of its creator(s). This exhibit at NSC will display what has been achieved and planned for thus far.
Alongside TWOIAT, 'Smialekspeare' will be presented. This is the world's first and only hand-written edition of the 1623 First Folio of William Shakespeare. It consists of nearly 6,000 pages, hand-written with vintage fountain pens, while in an 18 month self imposed seclusion in Spain and Argentina.
