Casa La Meta Sunset Club

Imagine the scene: a glorious sunset followed by a magical full moon illuminating the gardens. Guests greeting their friends, sipping Meta’s margaritas, and nibbling on appetizers from Restaurante Brisas Mexicanas. All this would have been enough for the happy crowd of 85 gathered at the home of local artist Meta MariCarmen Hernandez. But that is only part of the story. We were allowed to wander through the house, taking in the paintings and sculptures created by our host. The greatest treat of all was having access to her second story studio and gallery. What an amazing talent we have in our midst. Some guests purchased pieces, and Meta once again donated a portion of the proceeds to support the work of Las Hermanas.

Thank you so much to Meta for welcoming us into her home for this Sunset Club event, all proceeds from which go to fund our educational initiatives. A big thank-you to Denise “Victoria” Stevenson Hodges, our Sunset Club Coordinator, for doing the hard work of organizing these events. And a hugh shoutout to Mike Bensal for donating six bottles of Big Boy Tequila for the margaritas! Thanks also to all who helped, including Kim Shaffer. If you enjoyed the food, please patronize Restaurante Brisas Mexicanas in Majahua. Thanks to all of you who attended this event!

A message from Denise, our Sunset Club Coordinator:

We are hoping to have one more Sunset Club in later March or early April. Keep an eye out for the announcement, coming soon! Anyone interested in hosting next season, please let me know!

Trondonces Secondaria School Receives Needed Equipment

A few Las Hermanas members visited the Troncones primary and secondary schools recently, talking with the teachers and principals, and making sure the facilities are maintained and equipped with what is needed to make learning happen. One member noticed that none of the classrooms in the secondary school had a television, nor a projector which would be needed to show material on the large screen. The curriculum in middle school is increasingly technical and scientific, and visual presentations are essential for conveying this content. This member didn’t want to wait for a fundraiser to fulfill this need, so she went to Zihuatenejo and purchased three 55” televisions and a projector.

The students and teachers are grateful for this equipment that will make their lessons come to life. Thank you to members like this one who see a need and respond to it.
