WANTED: Residents to Fight for Environmental Justice and Against Racism
Openings on County Racial Justice Oversight Body and Hazardous Materials Commission
I am proud to continue to work with our community to advance equity, fairness and environmental justice.

Last year I successfully advocated for adding an Environmental Justice seat on our County Hazardous Materials Commission and supported the creation of a Racial Justice Oversight Body relating to criminal justice system reforms.

We are now seeking applicants to fill seats on these important County commissions.

Fighting structural racism involves changing the practices in our justice system and change the way we site facilities that handle hazardous materials.

You have a chance to join this fight!

Racial Justice Oversight Body

We are seeking applicants to fill a vacant Community Representative seat on our County Racial Justice Oversight Body (RJOB). The applicant should have had some justice system involvement, either as a juvenile or an adult.

This RJOB works to identify disparities in the justice system and to oversee strategies to reduce those disparities.
It meets quarterly with its subcommittees meeting monthly.  Full details on the RJOB are here.

The deadline for applying for this vacant seat is July 21 at 5pm.

Hazardous Materials Commission

We are seeking to fill the newly created Environmental Justice seat.   The applicant should be committed to Environmental Justice and live in a community that is highly impacted and burdened by hazardous facilities and releases, and be able to represent community interests.

The Commission makes policy recommendations to the County on issues concerning hazardous materials and hazardous waste. More information here.

Recruitment will continue until the seat is filled.

How to Apply

Applications for either commission are available from the Clerk of the Board of Supervisors at (925) 335-1900 or by clicking here. Fuller details on both commission opportunities here.

Completed applications should be emailed to ClerkoftheBoard@cob.cccounty.us or mailed to the Clerk of the Board, Room 106, County Administration Building, 651 Pine Street, Martinez, CA. 94553.

Please share these opportunities with qualified applicants.

Meanwhile, let's all work to oppose racism, bias, and injustice wherever we see it. Silence is not an option!
Sincerely,

John Gioia
