I have to start with a huge thank you to Marianne, Didier, Mynova, Sean and the whole team at Catamaran Company! It was great to see their smiling faces and feel their warm welcome at the Catco base in Hodges Creek. While they are each undoubtedly forever changed by what they have been through, they wear it well and have clearly been working hard to get the marina cleaned up and in working order. This is assuredly no small task and, while much remains to be d
one, their effort can be seen everywhere! Kelly and I talked about how thankful we are for the love and care they put into prepping Peace Out for our visit.
She looks great!
So here are some random thoughts and first impressions from our first 24 hours. We flew into Tortola (Beef Island) on a Seaborne Aviation flight after connecting in San Juan. Seeing the islands from the air, one thing is clear...they are GREEN and everything is growing.
To be clear, there is ample evidence of Irma's destructive force but there is a spirit of recovery everywhere you look.
After a warm welcome by the customs crew and other familiar faces at the airport, we were picked up by Sebastian's Transport. We dropped our bags at the boat, hugged the team and Catco and then headed off for a provisioning trip to RiteWay in Roadtown.
The store was incredibly well stocked and the produce, meat and fish looked great. Friday's are currently the day they restock the store so it is really busy but has great selections. We also took a quick visit this morning for some forgotten items to the smaller RiteWay in East End and it too was well-stocked with fresh produce. Also a big thank you to the team at Island Surf and Sail for the great service and delivery of our paddle board this morning.
This afternoon we cast off from the dock and set sail for a relaxing afternoon at The Indians. We then motored over to Norman Island to get a first-hand look at Pirate's Bight (lots of progress on repairs and opening soon) and Willie T's (still beached). We had a beautiful evening at Privateer Bay and are looking forward to more adventures tomorrow.
