Dear Colleagues,
Hope everyone is enjoying beautiful Spring weather!
Its bittersweet as I am writing my last message to you as president. It’s been a joy to serve our community over the last year. Special thanks to all our board members and for IISE staff for going above and beyond in their contributions during this term.
As we look forward to May 2023, I would like to direct your attention to activities during our upcoming Annual conference at New Orleans. We have 40+ OpEx-related presentations and posters, four finalists who will be presenting for ‘Best Practice’ awards, a chocolate factory workshop and our ‘town hall’ meeting that will take place on Monday, May 22nd. More information to follow on specific time and place. Please make every effort to attend our town hall meeting. It’ll be a good opportunity to meet fellow OpEx members, provide feedback on what is going well, what can be improved and have discussions. I look forward to meeting many of you there. Presentations for ‘Best Practice’ awards will take place on Sunday, May 21st from 8 AM to 12:20 PM.
Just like I have done in my previous messages, I would like to encourage you to look for ways to participate in our division throughout the year. There are many ways in which you can get involved, contribute, engage with and benefit from members in our division (which is 2000+ strong and is the oldest division!).

Here are some ideas to contribute and engage using IISE Connect and IISE Operational Excellence Division LinkedIn group:
- Share an insight/aha moment that will benefit OpEx members
- Ask for advice from seasoned practitioners and academy
Here are some ideas for our quarterly newsletter/webinars:
- Share recent articles you publish
- Present your research findings in a webinar
- Share awards or recognition, media coverage
- Spotlight your ISE career journey/story than can inspire new ISEs
- Share a successful project in a webinar
- Start a virtual/in-person book club

My heartfelt thanks to our outgoing board members – Johanna Ficatier (Past-president), William Edwards, Ahmad Elshennawy, Sampson Gholston and Jasbir Kumar and our IISE staff, Amy Straub.
Finally, I would like to extend a warm welcome to our five new board members – Chad Demore, Fernando Gonzalez Aleu, David Harry, Kurt Wurthman and Sharukh Irani. I would also like to introduce you to our next president, Leigh Ann Schildmeier and president-elect, Krishnan Krishnaiyer. Their term will start in June 2023.
