Last June, Provost Croughan launched the Sustaining Teaching and Research Task Force, or START, to bring about substantive improvements to our education, research and service models, thereby enhancing our ability to fulfill our mission at the highest levels of achievement.
The Provost’s initiative established six committees with one focused on Increasing Our Research Excellence, co-chaired by Rick Grosberg and myself. As we reach one year since the launch, I am pleased to share an update on the progress made so far.
Five working groups were created under the Research Excellence committee. These groups have been meeting every other week since January and have put forth the following recommended priorities to address:
- Expand opportunities in signature areas of excellence
- Access to state-of-the-art research computing
- Support critical core facilities and research centers/institutes
- Streamline research administration and better support PIs
- Re-imagine F&A allocation to support cross campus collaboration
You can view a full list of the working groups and priorities here.
