Opportunity Zone Regulations: IRS Issues Further Guidance
The Qualified Opportunity Zone Program will only work if investors can confidently follow the breadcrumbs to their prize. Regulatory confusion has kept many investors paralyzed in uncertainty. In the update below, we provide an overview of the highly sought-after guidance, which was released by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) and the US Treasury Department on April 17. The 169-page guidance covers a lot of ground. Below, we will give you a high-level overview and explain how the new clarifications will impact investors.

Determining Independent Contractor or Employee Status
Contract employment can have many perks such as safeguarding a business against the high cost of benefits, office space and taxes. Becoming an independent contractor is also attractive to the worker due to flexibility over their schedule and the duties they will perform.

Many business owners fail to recognize the effects of classifying an individual as an employee versus an independent contractor. For example, if you have misclassified the individual, you risk exposing yourself to significant tax liabilities.

Employee Spotlight: Brennan Wozniak!
Payne Nickles & Company would like to introduce one of the members of our Sandusky office staff: Brennan Wozniak!

Brennan is a native of Sandusky. After graduating from Perkins High School he attended Bowling Green State University - Firelands where he received an Associate of Science in Business. He moved on to Ohio University and attained a Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting and Business Pre-Law. Brennan is a staff accountant specializing in tax preparation, audit/review support and financial statement compilations.

He enjoys being active in his spare time, rock climbing being his main hobby. A favorite area to vacation is the southern California area. That might be a good place to enjoy his favorite cuisine…seafood. Brennan’s motto is: “In the end, it’s not the years in your life that count. It’s the life in your years” (Abe Lincoln)

Brennan is ready and waiting to help you, as are all of our friendly staff members. We hope to see you soon! Connect with Brandon on LinkedIn!
