Optimize your snow plow routes now and save time later
Spring is the best time to start evaluating your routes for the upcoming winter season. BETA provides GIS tools for snowplow, salt, and sanding route optimization, creating maps and summary reports that benefit communities, saving them time and money. For some municipalities, we have used existing municipal-wide plow route map data, coded it into a GIS program, combined it with truck inventory and characterization details, and output an optimized plan. Communities are then provided with individualized maps for each plow route as well as town-wide maps. What’s more, these maps can be the foundation for additional projects such as fall clean-up and debris removal.

BETA has taken plow routing to the next level by integrating plow route data into web-based maps. This enables Public Works directors to track vehicles during snow storms and provides turn-by-turn directions to plow drivers.

National Trails Day & Great Outdoors Month
This first Saturday of June was National Trails Day, a day dedicated to preserving trails throughout local and national parks. June is also Great Outdoors Month, a month to encourage nature enthusiasts of all kinds to get outdoors and enjoy our natural resources as much as possible.

This summer, BETA continues to advocate for the development of accessible trails and parks throughout New England. We believe that, in addition to the importance of meeting ADA regulations, greater access to nature can support healthy aging, physical rehabilitation, and important physical activity for all. If you're interested in finding funding for a trails project in your municipality, we encourage you to look into the Recreation Trails Grant Program offered by the USDOT’s Federal Highway Administration.
Celebrating Women in Engineering
International Women in Engineering Day, brought to you by Women’s Engineering Society (WES), celebrates its 9th year in 2022. INWED gives women engineers around the world a spotlight when they are still hugely under-represented in their industry. We're proud to celebrate the work our women engineers do every day to improve the communities in which we live and work. To learn about women engineers at BETA, click here.
