Opting-out for Mom's Day?
|
Mother's Day is a time for joy and celebration. Whether you choose to take Mom out for a Sunday Brunch or a nice steak dinner, the goal is to make sure you show that Mom is appreciated. This is especially true since Moms make many sacrifices for their children's health, happiness and well being.
However, it is also a holiday surrounded with pain for others. I lost my Mom 4 years ago and the holiday definitely loses some of its luster for me. However, I focus on the Mother of my 2 daughters to help alleviate the pain.
Many companies understand these different feelings towards the holiday. Therefore, they have taken action on it regarding their email promotions.
Companies have sent out an email letting their customers know they can opt-out of all Mother's Day emails. However, they can still receive other kinds of promotions. This allows women who struggle with infertility, who loss a child/pregnancy, or those who are grieving a mother have less pain around the holiday.
However, controversy surrounds this action of allowing customers to opt-out of Mother's Day emails. Some see it as companies showing empathy and being thoughtful. Others don't quite see it that way. Some people believe this trend has a political agenda that is being hateful towards motherhood. In an environment where our country tends to be extra sensitive about every action, this is more true than ever.

Did Fox News experience a recent shift?
|
Recently, Fox News decided to part ways with popular evening host, Tucker Carlson. This had an immediate effect on Fox News and their amount of viewers. After Tucker Carlson left, his old timeslot was down 50% of viewership. Some ratings have never been this bad since before September 11, 2001.
Fox drew 1.33 million viewers for substitute host Brian Kilmeade in the 8 p.m. Eastern hour last Wednesday night, putting the network second to MSNBC’s Chris Hayes in a competition Carlson used to dominate, the Nielsen company said. That’s down 56% from the 3.05 million viewers Carlson reached last Wednesday, Nielsen said.
This past month, Carlson's show hit its highest ratings, and in 2020, he became the highest rated host of all cable news. This shows how much of an impact Fox News felt when Tucker Carlson left.
Fox News needs to bring in a host that can bring in the same audience as Carlson or get new consumers to tune in. Carlson was a host for Fox, but he also became the face of the network. He almost became too big for the brand. This is why there has been such a huge reaction on social media.
We have seen the top rated get axed before from Fox News including Glenn Beck and Bill O'Reilly. Each time, Fox has been able to get their viewers back with a replacement host. Could it possibly happen a third time?

Is Facebook experiencing a rebound?
|
Have you noticed yourself using Facebook and Instagram more or less recently? If more, you are not alone.
In the first 3 months of 2023, Meta has said their revenue has gone up by 3% and users up by 5% compared to the previous year. Shares have also gone up by 10%.
Mark Zuckerberg said this was a year of efficiency after the company was down in revenue last year. Experts say a 3% revenue growth is a huge accomplishment due to the economic environment.
However, experts say the company can't afford to sit still. Financial markets watch big tech companies very closely since they have a huge impact on US Stock Indexes. Microsoft and the owner of Google have also reported better than expected results recently.

Is Elon trying to fill Twitter's 'pot'?
|
When was the last time you saw an ad for cannabis on social media? On most platforms, the answer is never. Even so, Twitter has recently relaxed pot ad rules to bring in more advertisers. Previously, cannabis companies weren't allowed to show or promote their product on Twitter. However, that is no longer the case.
Elon Musk is trying to find more sources of revenue due to his expensive purchase of Twitter. He also lifted a ban on political advertisements in the beginning of the year.
Cannabis companies must still follow a list of rules when advertising their product. Meta, Google, and other big tech companies all prohibit cannabis advertisements. It is widely known that Elon Musk is a marijuana user. This might be another reason for this change.

Is it wise to send an influencer gifts?
|
Have you ever sent an influencer a gift from your company with the hopes that he/she will post about it? Data has shown this is an ineffective strategy since most influencers never show the products on their channels.
60% of marketers say they have sent gifts to influencers and they are never posted. However, 65% of those marketers say they will continue to send gifts to those influencers despite their products not being posted. This is a huge waste in time and money for companies since most influencers are just throwing away the products they were gifted.
Despite influencers not posting the products they were gifted, brands still report positive outcomes. More than 90% of marketers said influencer gifts increase brand awareness, and at least 75% say they somewhat increased sales.
If companies do want to use influencer gifting in their marketing strategy, it is important to figure out which influencers you want to send products to and to make the gifts personalized. Companies could even reach out to influencers and ask them if they would be interested and let them select the products they would want. This could have a huge impact on the influencer actually posting about the product.

Whether you've been at your marketing position for 1 year or for 20 years, the pressure to produce and come up with the right strategies to reach your target audience is always there.
Did you hear that the average consumer today is exposed to 10,000 plus promotional messages a day?
Recently, Google put out a study that determined to even exist in a consumer’s mind, a brand needs to make
22 impressions a month digitally with that consumer. Therefore, you really need to make sure you have enough
frequency with your campaigns to get through the clutter in your target’s mind.
I am a 12 year former Disney executive who has discovered the secret sauce on how brands can cut through the clutter and reach their target. Like Disney, Marketing Keys cultivates, values, and encourages creativity, collaboration, and creativity from everyone.
By teaming up with us, we make the process enjoyable.
During my years working for various media companies, it seemed that if a company was not represented by a firm or by a media planner/buyer, then that company was at a disadvantage. Marketing Keys was formed in July, 2007 to more than level the negotiation playing field between advertisers and media companies. We enabled advertisers to have a major leg up in the process.
By leveraging our media experience, our relationships along with cutting edge ideas, we have been able to help generate an incremental 30-35% more in leads and/or conversions for our clients through our programs.
We started Marketing Keys with a simple mission. Help Presidents, CEOs, Marketing Directors, CMOs, Regional Managers and others create the most well thought out, efficient and effective media campaigns.
We may not be perfect. But we will listen to you and always be committed to you. We strive to run our business with passion and humility all with the utmost integrity.
We look forward to empowering you to do your best work.
Until next month,
Roger Keys
