Hello Tri-State Team,
Welcome to June... It’s hard to believe we’re halfway through 2022!
First and foremost, a HUGE thank you to all of you across our tri-state groups for completing the employee engagement survey! More than 70% of you shared your voices and feedback through the survey and we look forward to hearing what you had to say. You shared what’s on your minds so we can learn, address and improve where needed. Your collaboration enabled us to achieve a strong participation rate – a sign that as an organization, we care enough to focus on the positive and how we can do better.
|
|
We will receive and share the anonymous results with all of our teams this summer. Shortly thereafter, we will begin the work of developing action plans based on the important themes found in our survey results. Again, thank you all!
We are better together. And nowhere is that truer than in how we operate to render care for our patients in a manner that’s best for them. As we continue to make significant physical and operational improvements to prepare for our transition to Optum, delivering integrated, multifaceted and collaborative care enables us to better coordinate total care for those we serve and allows us to manage and function more efficiently across our entire organization. Working together helps us achieve this goal.
We recognize a lot is going on throughout our organization. We sincerely thank and appreciate each of you for showing up every day and offering your continued dedication to our organization, our patients and one another.
Scott and Kevin

Patient Experience
The bookends of patient experience
|
|
From the warm welcome to the fond farewell, personal greetings are the bookends of positive patient experiences. Here are some excellent patient experience techniques shared by patient ambassadors that are known to make a meaningful impact on patients.
"Incorporating a warm welcome goes a long way with patients and their children. Creating eye contact as soon as they walk through our doors is essential, as it helps them to feel at ease. Simply adding a “Hello, how are you doing today?” can go a long way for the parent and the child! Before leaving the exam room, we smile and wish them a great well check or share the hope of feeling better. These steps help them feel known and create a safe environment.” Natasha Reid, patient ambassador
"Before exiting the exam room together, our med techs verify that the patient has their prescription needs covered. We then escort our patients to our front desk to help with any follow-up appointments. This eliminates any feeling of being lost and as we walk them to the front; it is another opportunity to check in with them to see if they have any other questions. Finally, as a fond farewell, our front desk team always thanks the patient for coming in and wishes them well." Rosemarie Heiser, patient ambassador
As Dr. Jill Brodsky shared in a recent O Show episode, she looks forward to the warm welcome she receives from her staff – which is an inspiring reminder to give warm welcomes and fond farewells to all her patients. A true ripple effect for all!

June is Alzheimer’s and Brain Awareness Month.
Here’s How Oral Care Can Affect Your Brain
|
|
Alzheimer’s and Brain Awareness Month is an opportunity to explore how oral care may affect the onset of diseases such as Alzheimer’s.
A 2019 study in Science Advances, found that the bacteria that causes gingivitis in the mouth may also be connected to Alzheimer’s disease. Porphyromonas Gingivalis is a bacteria that can travel from the mouth to the brain producing enzymes called gingipain that can destroy nerve cells. This nerve damage can lead to memory loss, and eventually Alzheimer’s.
Some of the most common issues dentists see in their patients are related to poor oral care, including bleeding gums and gingivitis. By sharing the connection between gum disease and brain health, patients may be more likely to take action early on.
Optum in the tri-state region has a clinical affiliation with ProHEALTH Dental, which offers dental services throughout the New York and New Jersey area. Learn more at PHDental.com.

Dear Colleagues,
It can be hard to know when and how to speak up with respect to national events. But what is clear is that the last few weeks in our country are weighing heavily on the minds of many of us. This is a time of stress and concern in our nation as we cope with mass shootings seemingly every day. Each one hits home, whether it's because we care about the people affected, we feel our community was targeted or we see a workplace that looks like ours, one focused on helping people, impacted by violence. This is leaving many of us feeling anxious, sad, angry or afraid.
We do not have all of the answers, but what can help get us through times like these is staying close and being there for each other. If you and your family are in need of help or support, please reach out to any or all of the resources below.
Take care,
Erin
