Tikkun Olam Day - Blood Drive at Or Shalom
Sunday, March 17 11am-3pm

Did you know that one in seven people entering a hospital will need blood? While only 38% of the population is eligible to donate blood, less than 10% of eligible donors actually donate blood.  Will you help increase that percentage and save lives by donating?

The Southside Jewish Collaborative is sponsoring a blood drive as part of its biannual Tikkun Olam Day. Click here to read up on donor requirements to make sure you're eligible and here to make an appointment to give blood.

We will also be making lunches for the homeless and collecting toiletries.  Please bring what you can.

News Minyan
Sunday, March 17, 10am
at Or Shalom

News Minyan  discussions bring the wisdom of Jewish texts and traditions to bear on contemporary issues and events. Conceived as Torah study in reverse, the group starts in the present, using deep listening practice, and works backward to our ancient texts.

This month, Rabbi Jane Litman will lead discussion on the upcoming Israeli elections.

The Text of Our Time can be found here.

Join the March for Fossil Fuel Freedom
Dinner - March 17
March - Monday, March 18, 8:30am

Want to support clean energy, build community and make new friends with like-minded interfaith, Native American, labor, and climate activists from all over the Bay Area? Or Shalom will join 350.org, Idle No More, the California Faith Community for Climate Justice, Raging Grannies Action League, and dozens of other groups that are planning a 34-mile walk targeting Wells Fargo's financing of the fossil fuel industry. Indigenous activists will lead the march with prayer and song.

Even non-marchers are invited to join in for dinner and celebration on Sunday night, March 17. We will march from the Excelsior
on Monday morning, March 18 around 8:30am to rally at the bank's world headquarters, 420 Montgomery Street at noon.

If you want to join any part of the march or rally please RSVP by March 14 both to Or Shalom and on  the event website . See  the website  for more information.  Details about the march will be sent to registrants.

Nefesh Mountain

Take Action on Medicare for All!
Monday, March 18, 7-9pm

Are you sick of the costly and discriminatory healthcare and healthcare insurance in this country?
Now's the perfect time to get involved.  HR 1384 is the new national health insurance bill called  Medicare for All Act for 2019 . It is currently co-sponsored by 107 legislators.

You are invited to the Or Shalom Safety Net Action Committee Medicare for All Canvassing Meeting . At this gathering, you can learn more about the legislation and sign up to canvass in support for this bill. We will also provide canvass training. Whether or not this specific bill passes, you will be part of growing the movement for universal healthcare for all in our country.

We are delighted to have  Carolyn Bowden from National Nurse United Medicare for All campaign as a guest speaker.
