The Or Shalom Blog

Aidan and his family are very much looking forward to him becoming a Bar Mitzvah on June 3rd, 2023 with Or Shalom!

Aidan Joel Sommerfield is a 7th grader at the Brandeis School of San Francisco. He enjoys playing water polo, baseball, pickleball, ping pong, and snowboarding. He also studies the trumpet and piano, and likes making 2D and 3D digital art, creating maker-space projects, computer coding, hanging with his dog Buster, traveling to Tahoe and Hawaii with his family, and being social with friends. Aidan is also very proud to have earned his black belt in karate, in April 2023!

Aidan's Bar Mitzvah will be celebrated at 12:30 pm on June 3 at Ner Tamid (1250 Quintara Street). No registration is necessary. All are welcome to attend.

This Shabbat:

Friday, May 19, 7:00 pm

The Brandeis School, 655 Brotherhood Way

In addition to coming together as a community, this Shabbat we will honor Malcolm X on his birthday, with a speaker from the Muslim community.

Shavuot Ice Cream Social with JBN

Saturday, May 20, 10:30 am – 12:00 pm

Celebrate Shavuot with JBN and Or Shalom! We can’t think of a more delicious way to celebrate the holiday of Shavuot than with an ice cream playdate in Holly Park. Join us for ice cream novelties (popsicles available for dairy-free folks), music, puppets, crafts, and more!

Click here to register. Registration is appreciated but not required.

The Return of Traveling Shabbat!

Starting in June, members may once again host a Traveling Shabbat in their own home! Click here to choose from the list of available dates.

Please note, Covid-19 precautions including masking, attendance caps, and testing are to be determined by the host.

Tikkun Leyl Shavuot 5783/2023

Thursday, May 25, 8:00 pm PT, via Zoom

With Am Tikvah, Ner Tamid, Or Shalom & Beth Ohr of Studio City.

Join the congregations of the Southside Jewish Collaborative for an evening of study, music, and reflection. We will hear the echoes of the moment of the Giving of Torah, shed new light on beloved texts and familiar blessings, and receive the words of the “Ten Commandments” that call us, like the words in this beautiful art piece by Rabbi Me'irah, to “Tzeh Ul’mad! Go and Learn!”

Click here to join the Zoom meeting on May 25. Hosted by Ner Tamid.
