Or Shalom members, summertime is the time to renew your commitment to Or Shalom. Your membership runs from July 1, 2019 to June 30, 2020. High Holy Day tickets will be going out soon, so please act now.

Your renewal form is here. If you have questions about the renewal process, just call the office. We'll be happy to help you.

If you are over 70 1/2 years old, you may be eligible to pay your financial commitment by making a Qualified Charitable Distribution from an IRA.  This may have tax benefits for you.  Please consult a financial advisor to find out more.

Enrollment in Bet Sefer is now open!  Please use this link to enroll your students.

Or Shalom's Bet Sefer connects students to their Jewish community and heritage by introducing them to Jewish holidays, history, values, and the Hebrew language. Our curriculum is designed to meet the needs of all learners and support them in their growth along their Jewish journey through song, dance, art, cooking, study and community service

Bet Sefer starts on September 11 at 4pm.  See you then!

Tisha B'Av
Remember, Integrate, and Move Forward
Saturday, August 10 at 8:00 pm
Tisha B'Av ("the Ninth of Av") is an annual fast day that commemorates the destruction of both the First Temple (by the Babylonians in 586 BCE) and the Second Temple (by the Romans in 70 CE). According to tradition, these two catastrophes occurred on the same calendar date.

Rabbi Me'irah will lead us in reading portions of Lamentations, a series of dirges and eyewitness accounts of Jerusalem under siege during the first destruction.

We will then have an opportunity to share important memories: how we keep them from being forgotten and how we have integrated them into our lives. Please bring a brief (2-3 minute) story, poem, or song you wish to share.

Friday, August 16 at 6:30pm

Our popular community Shabbat continues with our hosted dinner followed by a joyful and musical service for all ages.

Blessing and dinner at 6:30; the service starts around 7. To help us with meal planning, please  RSVP here.  And remember to bring your own reusable plates and utensils.

The upcoming Shabbat Kulanu is hosted by teens and their families, who can sign up for hosting tasks  here.

4th Friday Shabbat Service and Discussion
Friday, August 23 at 6:30pm
Reverend Deborah Lee, Executive Director of the  Interfaith Movement For Human Integrity, and Rabbi  Lynn Gottlieb, Chair of the Board of IM4HI, will be  presenting at our 4th Friday Shabbat Service Speaker Series this month.
They will be speaking about the root causes of immigration and ways that we at Or Shalom can launch efforts to support immigrants, acting on the core Jewish mitzvah of welcoming the stranger.
