With funding from Georgetown's Jesuit Mission Grant, NHS colleagues Brian Floyd, MS, and Edilma Yearwood, PhD, RN, interviewed African-American alumnae about their experiences.

More than 22 percent of students in Biomedical Graduate Education programs are international students. Events like the annual Lunar New Year party allow students to socialize while celebrating different cultures.


Having recruited over 1,700 clinical trial participants and published more than 100 papers in his career, Daniel Merenstein, MD, is known for his pursuit of evidence-based answers to common clinical questions.

In response to new guidelines issued by the American Society of Breast Surgeons, Claudine Isaacs, MD, said that genetic testing can reveal information that could immediately impact a patient's care.



A two-year fellowship supported by the "Fund a Fellow" program trains new doctors in diagnosing and treating movement disorders, addressing a growing need for specialists in this field.

Hosted by the Office of Technology Commercialization, the Patent Awards Ceremony held on February 4 honored faculty achievements in innovation and commercialization, and included several honorees from Georgetown University Medical Center. See the full list here.

The Center for Innovation and Leadership in Education (CENTILE) will host the Sixth Annual Colloquium for Educators in the Health Professions as part of the MedStar Health and Georgetown University Research Symposium on May 30. All providers, researchers, residents and fellows may submit abstracts for the colloquium and the research symposium here before Thursday, February 28 at 11:59 p.m.

The Junior Science and Humanities Symposium (JSHS or "DC Science Fair") will bring together high school scientists from DC, Maryland and Virginia for lectures, lab tours and seminars at Georgetown March 7-8. A new study conducted at cancer centers around the country, including at Georgetown Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center, supports the routine use of a radiation treatment for prostate cancer that delivers a high dose of therapy in a very short time frame.

The immunotherapy that has revolutionized treatment of many cancers appears to offer similar benefit to cancer patients living with HIV, say researchers at Georgetown Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center.

 




After working in the banking industry for two decades, Amy Fong (B'92) left the corporate world to join a global movement to better the lives of children, becoming CEO of Save the Children Hong Kong where she has rescued thousands of refugees traveling across the Mediterranean Sea from Africa to Europe to escape persecution and poverty.
