Club President

By: Joe Dotterer - Club President

The NAFAC went very well and we had 112 shooters. We had people from Hawaii, Washington, Wyoming, New Jersey, New York and many other states. We even had a guest shooter from Scotland.

I want to thank all our cook shack workers and especially Max Burk and Julie Robinson and Phyllis Barker for all their extra help on Friday November 30th.

Elections are coming up and nomination start this month and if you are interested in being on the board, come to the next meeting or ask a board member what's involved in being a officer of the club.

Merry Christmas

Hi all, just got back from hunting for deer and turkeys in the state of Washington. Didn’t get anything but missed shots. The buddy I hunted with shot a nice ten pointer, about twenty inches or better and over 200 pounds. We also saw a lot of turkey.

Just a note that if you call me and I don't answer please leave a message, if there is no message I delete it. I get too many calls from people that want to sell me something, so please leave a message if you want me to get back to you.

Any game taken for 2018 the deadline is JAN 31 and don't forget the women and men have separate sections, so women and men send me your games cards or put them in the mail box at the front gate that is for Oranco or at the club house on Sundays when it is open.

Oranco JOAD Program

Kids are getting to archery and that’s a good thing, so I am very happy to announce that in addition to the Junior Field Archers program the club started last month, we now have a JOAD (Junior Olympic Archery Development) Program at the club. At the last club meeting the board approved the creation of an official Oranco Bowmen JOAD program and installed Vernie Urbano as JOAD Coordinator. She is a Level 4 Archery Instructor and has been volunteering her time as our Basic Archery Class Instructor at the club on a couple Saturday’s a month. You have probably seen her at the practice butts with a student and she will be responsible for the training of our clubs Youth Archery Team. The goal is to have a team of well-rounded youth archers to sponsor at local, state and national archery events by this time next year. It is going to be a lot of work so if you are interested in lending a hand let us know, our contact info is on the website. Got some old JOAD equipment sitting around the house??? Please consider donating it to the program. It will be put to good use.

OBJFA

The Junior Field Archers program met on Dec 2nd and we had a good round. We had 4 kids and 2 adults. I took them out for a 14 target hunter round and explained all the different target faces and shooting positions and of course, scoring. It took the kids a little while to get on target but by number 7 on the valley they were all calmed down and doing well. By the end they were tired and had fun and that’s the point, right? Adults are welcome to join us of course if you need a refresher on the rules.

Club Colors

Just a reminder. When you go to Archery events at other clubs be sure show some pride and wear your club colors. When you can, shoot with the your club members and make sure to take lots of pictures. Send them to me and I will make sure they get on the website. If you don’t have an Oranco Bowmen Club shirt pick a couple up on Sunday's or at one of our Club events. If you want to see what we have, check out the website and go to the club store page…we have hoodies and sweatshirts just in time for the cool weather. Don’t see what you want, give me a shout and I will see if we can get it…better yet, come to the club meeting and let us know.

Club Meeting

Speaking of the club meeting…That’s where we discuss and vote on projects, budgets, legislative issues, and Joe’s hunting trip to Alaska (he didn’t get anything but cold) and we would love your input…got an idea? Come out and let us know. We meet on the second Tuesday of each month at the clubhouse and the meeting starts at 7:00 PM and we are usually out of there by 9 or so but no promises, it takes a lot of work to keep our Club the best in So. Cal.

Thank you,

Hi All!

Happy Holidays! Time is flying and 2019 will be here before we can blink…
The November and December meetings were packed with updates and new opportunities to participate in club activities but I’ll try to keep it short. Here are the goings-on highlights:

* The annual Oranco Charity 3D shoot was Sunday December 9 and was a great success. Thanks to our members Joey, Gerri and Davida, that stepped up to run the cook shacks, you did GREAT! About half of the toys will be donated to families in need though a local church and the remainder plus a $1000 cash donation will be donated to Chino Neighborhood House. Chino Neighborhood House

* Nomination period for the 2019 Oranco Board of Directors is open. Please let us know if you are interested in volunteering or would like to nominate someone to a position. Elections will be held in February but the nomination period closes January 8 with new terms beginning in March.

* There are several petitions pending a vote at the CBH annual meeting in January. The Orange Belt Field Archers, which includes Oranco has 3 votes. Please come to the next meeting and let us know how you want those votes directed. The petitions are on the CBH website (here) and include a State 3D Marked Championship Tournament, Revisions to the State Broadhead Championship, and a State Traditional Championship. Exciting stuff!!!

* The first Oranco Junior Field Archers (JFA) event was held on November 4. We look forward to additional events and growing this new program.

* Vernie and David proposed an Oranco JOAD Group and Travel Team, which the Board approved in concept. We look forward to hearing more details. Congratulations to Vernie who was appointed JFA/JOAD Coordinator under Tournament Chair!

* There were 112 shooters competing in the NAFAC - North American Field Archery Championship at Oranco the weekend of November 10-11. This was a really neat group of shooters from all over. Two or three new records were set. A female youth from Mexico shot ~57 spots demonstrating an impressive mature shooter. One family took first in each of their categories!

* REMINDER: Starting in January the new by-laws regarding membership requirements and the new membership fee schedule take effect. Because the new safety orientation video is not ready, the Board is considering delaying implementation until renewal season in June.

* Oranco started remodeling the main cook shack. Work will progress in stages and the remodel will meet food establishment standards when complete.

* We need a volunteer to assist Tony with organizing the cook shack volunteers as he continues to recover from his surgery. See Joe if you are interested.

* Oranco was broken into last month. Under $1000 of equipment stolen from the Conex including welder, skill saw, and drill driver. Vehicle description is a 1998 Silver/Grey Dodge pickup with loud exhaust. The Board is looking into new locks and security cameras have been installed. Cameras include infrared and are good enough to read license plates. Thieves BEWARE!

* It’s time to start planning next year’s Oranco Banquet. Come to the next meeting and let us hear your ideas. Joe, Mark Houston and Al Wiscovitch have been appointed to the annual 2019 banquet committee.

* American Resources Insurance Company is dropping insurance to California clubs, including Oranco. Joe and Al are looking into alternatives but cost will likely increase.
Want to be informed or get involved? Our next club meeting is Tuesday, January 8 at 7pm in the club house.

Club Meeting Minutes are available in a binder at the Club office or email Ob.Secretary@outlook.com for a copy. The Summary of Board/Member Actions from the last meetings are included below.

Hi Everyone,

Hope all of you have had a great tournament and hunting season? Looking forward to hearing all your stories and seeing your pictures.

It has been a long year and now it is time to look forward to next year’s archery tournaments January is just around the corner and will start with the first of 4-State CBH/SAA Championships. The indoor being the first. If you haven’t shot an indoor shoot they can be tricky and fun. They are hosted by many of the archery stores along our state and will report their results to the CBH/SAA and determined who wins each category. So if you haven’t tried one yet, I would recommend the indoor as it is only 20-yards and can be done evenings or a weekend. Please look up on the CBH tournament calendar (www.cbhsaa.net) for these dates.

So wishing everyone a wonderful holiday season and hope to see you at the range with all your new bows!!

Oranco Bowmen Archery Range

Occupying about 45 acres, Oranco Bowmen Archery Club is a NFAA certified 5-star range. This is the highest certification given by NFAA. We are the only range in Southern California with practice butts from 10-80 yards in 5-yard increments. If you need a place to "dial in" your bow, this is it!

Oranco also has two NFAA roving courses: Our Valley Course is a level 28-target course, consisting of 14 animal and 14 hunter paper targets. For those who desire a bit more of a physical challenge, our Mountain Course is a hilly 28-target course offering 14 Field targets and another set of 14 animal paper targets. The Layout changes occasionally.

Oranco is not responsible for lost or stolen belongings.

Please remember to lock your vehicles when you are not present and always take your equipment home with you. We have received reports about stolen equipment, and want everyone to understand that you alone are responsible for your belongings . We advise you to put your identification information on your belongings and try not to leave anything unattended.

Remember: We are open to the public on Sundays and during shoots. During these events it is much more difficult to track who is on range property, especially if people do not sign in at the office.

Be safe and responsible everyone.

Age This Buck

It’s that time again! The latest round of Age This Buck is here. We want to hear your best guess on this month’s buck entry. The buck featured below is a southern Illinois buck that made the rounds and showed up on a number of trail cams for the BHOD staffers over the years.

One Buck, Shot By Two Hunters, Who Gets the Deer?

You just shot a huge buck. One you’d be proud to hang on your wall.  The problem is, another hunter made the shot as well, on the same buck! Two deadly shots by two hunters, on one buck – so who gets the deer?

Why & How to Hunt Soybean Fields for Whitetails

Fill more deer tags by taking advantage of this irresistible food source. When asked what single element has changed my whitetail bowhunting career for the better, my answer is simple — soybeans. Soybeans have been my foundation for many years, and they have provided me with an overabundance of deer sightings and encounters. From early spring until the dead of winter, soybeans will produce great benefits for bowhunters and the deer they love to hunt.

Competition Archery Media 2019 Schedule
