ORANCO BOWMEN MONTHLY NEWSLETTER - FEBRUARY 2024
ORANCO BOWMEN ARCHERY CLUB
Club President

By: Al Wiscovitch - Club President

Hi everyone,

Hope all is well and you have been able to get to the outdoors no matter the discipline. It has been amazing to see our mountains covered with so much snow and clean air. Now the downside to all of this, our range has been a bit under water and we have had to postpone our shot last weekend. Let us hope we can get it done this coming weekend. We do appreciate you all understanding the impact this has on our range and the safety of our shooters and families. We want everyone to be safe and have a good shot.

I hope those of you who went out to Vegas had a good shoot looking forward to hearing some of your stories. I heard that NFAA will be moving next year with the hope that their new venue will be able to accommodate the growth they are seeing from this amazing venue. If you would like to hear more about this big move please go to Paige Pierce's Facebook she gives a very good inside to the needed move from South Point.

In other news with all the weather we have been getting we have trees down again so please be careful when using the range and please no cars or trucks on the range, it takes a lot of work to keep our roads in good shape and safe. As I put this together we are hoping to get our first big tournament of the year this coming weekend as always please make some time to come out and help with all the work it takes to get it done.

Well, I guess you all may have been watching this year’s Super Bowl we did, and what a game that was. Congratulations to Chriss Bowles and Amanda Duchardt who are big KC fans.

As always thank you for taking the time to keep up with our club newsletter. If you have any questions for me you can Text or call!

Thanks

Club Vice President

By: Pete Whitworth - Club Vice President

Hi Everyone. I am Pete, the Vice President and as such it is my responsibility to run our club invitational shoots. Along with our President Al Wiscovitch, I also deal with the day to day running of the club in general, and specifically we handle any complaints or issues that any of you have. Naturally you are always free to voice any issues at our club meetings held on the second Tuesday of every month at 7:00 PM in the clubhouse, however; Al and I are here to keep things running smooth on a daily basis. So, when problems arise, you should always feel free to contact either of us for immediate help.

This month got off to a wet start. We were all ready to run the Rendezvos shoot on the 11th, but the rain caused us to have to push it back a week. Naturally with everything being scheduled back to back all over the state that always causes a slew of issues. We are running the shoot this coming weekend on the 18th. (Make note that we are also having a Pig Roast as well as a fun day of clouts and a flint round on Saturday the 17th). The conflict this time is that this is the same weekend as the State Traditional shoot up north. Of course, I got a few complaints from people who will be attending that State shoot, however; the following weekend is the CBH meeting and a few of our board members are also our local and state representatives that need to go to that meeting. This is far from the best outcome, and I do apologize but it is what it is and I can only do the best with the hand I am delt. For those of you who are coming out to our shoot this coming weekend, it should be a lot of fun.

Note: I need help with setup on Friday morning the 16th at 9:00 and I will also need help on Monday the 19th at 9:00 for take down. I will be camping at the range from Friday through Monday and I hope to see you out there.

Oranco Bowmen Archery Range

Occupying about 45 acres, Oranco Bowmen Archery Club is a NFAA certified 5-star range. This is the highest certification given by NFAA. We are the only range in Southern California with practice butts from 10-80 yards in 5-yard increments. If you need a place to "dial in" your bow, this is it!

Oranco also has two NFAA roving courses: Our Valley Course is a level 28-target course, consisting of 14 animal and 14 hunter paper targets. For those who desire a bit more of a physical challenge, our Mountain Course is a hilly 28-target course offering 14 Field targets and another set of 14 animal paper targets. The Layout changes occasionally.

Oranco is not responsible for lost or stolen belongings.

Please remember to lock your vehicles when you are not present and always take your equipment home with you. We have received reports about stolen equipment, and want everyone to understand that you alone are responsible for your belongings. We advise you to put your identification information on your belongings and try not to leave anything unattended.

Remember: We are open to the public on Sundays and during shoots. During these events it is much more difficult to track who is on range property, especially if people do not sign in at the office.

Be safe and responsible everyone.

Per Al Wiscovitch, Club President there will be an “ALL YOU CAN EAT LUNCH” served for ALL of our Volunteers who come out and help.

Your assistance ensures that the Oranco Bowmen Archery Club remains the best in Southern California. There is a reason why people travel from all over California to shoot at our Archery Club. Get involved and help us out.

Cook Shack Workers Needed: Positions are still available for volunteers to help out during the upcoming shoots.

Please contact Steve Baker in order to reserve your spot at: Cell# (951) 285-1550. First Come, First Served.

Target Camping: This is NOT Allowed...Period. Your Membership will be terminated for doing this! The Practice Butts are for sighting in, improving your archery skills, and honing your accuracy. The Roving Range is just that, Roving. Shoot 4 arrows, Score them, then move on to the next target.

You have been warned. Don't do it. It is not worth it.

10 Things Shed Antlers Tell Us

Shed hunting is a vogue activity. Popularized over the past couple decades, it’s now mainstream. Even people who don’t hunt enjoy shed hunting each spring. But for those who do implement shed hunting as part of their annual hunting and scouting effort, what do we learn from them? Here are 10 things that shed antlers tell us.
