Hi everyone,

We are starting a new year! If you take any game from JAN 1 TO DEC 31 2020 and if you want a free trophy plaque for all the big game and right amount of small game taken, fill out your game cards. To get more information, read the ORANCO BY-LAWS under HUNTCHAIRMAN and see what game can be taken and all the game points you got on the game taken. When you fill out your game cards put all big game and small game on the same cards.

Try and send your reports as soon as you can. We now have a woman's section, the woman does not have to compete with the men, the only part they compete with the men is THE BIG BUCK CONTEST. When you get a buck I need the outside measurement. I don't care how small it is, we had one lady that turn in a 4 inch and she won the BIG BUCK CONTEST for that year. These awards are for full time members ONLY, if you need more game report cards there is a lot in the club house, or send me a e-mail with your name and address and I will send you some.

Spring Turkey and Bear season will open soon and be careful, beaded turkey only. When you go bow fishing you need a fishing license, as always READ THE REGULATION for the fishing and hunting.

Good luck

The " WINTER 3D LEAGUE "

Is in full swing and the competition is Fast & Furious!!! Members and prospective members enjoyed a challenging 2-arrow marked yardage 12 Target 3D animal shoot this last Saturday. My hat is off to our League Chairman Al Wiscovich and his team for a stellar setup and a fun-filled day of 3D League archery. My daughter Justine and I were lucky enough to be in a group with some of the club's top shooters this last Saturday so we had a up-close look at some of the hot competition going on. It's not too late for you to jump in for the next 4 Saturdays and go home with a League trophy. Every Saturday will be a different scenario of target setups with marked and unmarked yardage or both on different parts of the range. A quick fun way to meet new friends and bone up on your archery skills! 1st, 2nd and 3rd place trophies will be awarded after the last shoot during our potluck side dish lunch with free burgers and hotdogs and drinks on the club. Whether you're a Pro-shooter, beginner or just want to have some fun, the Oranco 3D Winter League has a place for you!

The " ORANCO BOWMEN AWARDS BANQUET "

Will be held Saturday night March 28th, 2020. at the Oranco Bowmen archery range. We invite you to come out and enjoy a fun-filled night of good food, drink and friends! The evening starts with a 5 p.m. mixer, at 5:30 p.m. we start the dinner line for a delicious Chuck Wagon BBQ Buffet including beverages and dessert! Enjoy the comedic stylings of ( Big Mike ) Gonzales one of Oranco's very own club members! Our Board Members will present the awards to our honored club members, and yes a few lucky club members will go home with some really cool raffle prizes. Ask anyone who's attended this awards banquet in the last few years and I'm sure they'll tell you just how much they've enjoyed themselves! So please don't wait, time is running out! Fill out your banquet invitations and get them in the mail to Al Wiscovich so he and the banquet committee can finish up the preparations for this year's Oranco Bowmen Awards Banquet!!!
We all look forward to sharing this magical evening with you all...

Returning Member:
Josh Miller

Please welcome the new members when you see them on the range.

Just a quick reminder that renewals are coming up soon so if you received your new CBH or NFAA membership card, please take a minute to send us a copy of your current card so there is no delay in receiving your 2020 membership card and gate code. You can email a copy to [email protected] or text it to 909-217-4441 and we will update our records.

Eagle Scout Project: I am sure you have heard about the new display board Blade Betts has been working on for his Eagle Scout Project. This will greatly benefit the club by centralizing the shoot and work party information in one place rather than separate handwritten messages attached to the fences and front gate. Blade has been working very hard on this project and I am amazed by just how many hoops he has had to jump through, not only at our club meetings but also getting it approved by the Eagle Scout Board. He is using top quality material and has set his budget at $2500.

Just so you know…His project is self funded so he is asking for donations to help out with the cost and after his latest report at the February Club meeting I am a little disappointed that more Club members haven’t stepped up to help out.  The majority of donations have come from outside the club!!! Come on guys…I know we have some eagle scouts out there and with 427 members it only amounts to $6 a member for something that will greatly benefit our club. So…Lets get behind this project and get it funded! Please send your donation to Blade Betts, P.O. Box 186, Norco CA. 92860 or you can visit his Go Fund Me page at https://www.gofundme.com/f/blade039s-eagle-scout-project and make a donation.
Thank you for your support

Oranco Bowmen Archery Range

Occupying about 45 acres, Oranco Bowmen Archery Club is a NFAA certified 5-star range. This is the highest certification given by NFAA. We are the only range in Southern California with practice butts from 10-80 yards in 5-yard increments. If you need a place to "dial in" your bow, this is it!

Oranco also has two NFAA roving courses: Our Valley Course is a level 28-target course, consisting of 14 animal and 14 hunter paper targets. For those who desire a bit more of a physical challenge, our Mountain Course is a hilly 28-target course offering 14 Field targets and another set of 14 animal paper targets. The Layout changes occasionally.

Oranco is not responsible for lost or stolen belongings.

Please remember to lock your vehicles when you are not present and always take your equipment home with you. We have received reports about stolen equipment, and want everyone to understand that you alone are responsible for your belongings . We advise you to put your identification information on your belongings and try not to leave anything unattended.

Remember: We are open to the public on Sundays and during shoots. During these events it is much more difficult to track who is on range property, especially if people do not sign in at the office.

Be safe and responsible everyone.

You have been warned. Don't do it. It is not worth it.

Becoming a Bowhunter: What You Need to Know

My first year of bowhunting was filled with mistakes. Unfortunately, you don’t get many do-overs in the outdoors, but if I only knew then what I know now…well, I guess we could say that about a lot of things in life. At least I learned from those mistakes, and although the little failures were tough to swallow at times, they did make me a better bowhunter.

Bowhunting Accuracy in High Winds

Archers who hunt out west know that executing shots under windy conditions is more the rule than the exception. I once took a shot at a Wyoming pronghorn in a stiff, 30-mph crosswind. The shot seemed true, yet I missed my target by a full 14 inches! I also remember a follow-up shot on a mule deer at 55 yards when the wind was whipping with intermittent gusts. I had to aim about two feet off-center to send the arrow through the buck’s chest. When the wind blows that hard, a well-gauged aim is critical, but so is your use of specialized tackle to help counter the wind’s forcing your arrow off course.
