Club President

By: Al Wiscovitch - Club President

Hi everyone,

Hope you all had a nice 4th of July,

I wanted to thank all of you that came out to help with the work party for our Firecracker event. Range clean up and target gluing. These are the bases that make our club a 5-star club I was very pleased with all the help we got on that Saturday before our shoot. Again thank you all so much for supporting our events.

Now, Sunday was a great turn out with a lot of shooters that came from all over to shoot our event. Now the hard news it was very hot out there on Sunday as we had a few shooters not able to hold up to the heat. But overall great turn out.

Updates:

Hoping, to have a work party this coming Saturday with some of our projects if you are in need of some work party credits please reach out to me. I will get an email out later this week.

Hunting season is just around the corner it’s very hot out always remember to keep hydrated it’s that time of the season when it can get very hot out so please remember to stay hydrated. I hope most of you got drawn for your special tag and if not your local tags will let you get out and play a bit. If you get that special animal please share it with us we would love to share it on our newsletter.

Happy hunting!

As always thanks for reading my newsletter!

Club Vice President

By: Pete Whitworth - Club Vice President

Hi Everyone. I am Pete, the Vice President and as such it is my responsibility to run our club invitational shoots. Along with our President Al Wiscovitch, I also deal with the day to day running of the club in general, and specifically we handle any complaints or issues that any of you have. Naturally you are always free to voice any issues at our club meetings held on the second Tuesday of every month at 7:00 PM in the clubhouse, however; Al and I are here to keep things running smooth on a daily basis. So, when problems arise, you should always feel free to contact either of us for immediate help.

It has come to my attention that some people are cheating the system at our tournaments. By that I mean that some groups have been signing up on the target assignment board for a particular target (or not signing up on it at all) then instead of going to their assigned target, they have been going to a target that they would have preferred, had someone not already been assigned to it. They then wait behind the group assigned to that target and as that group moves forward, they step up and shoot that target. It should be obvious that this can’t be allowed. This is cutting in line and putting yourself in front of the people assigned to the target behind you and this pushes everyone on the entire course back by one target.

A target assignment is an assignment, not a suggestion. In the future, this will be announced prior to the tournaments, and any group reported for doing this will be eliminated from the tournament.

The way to secure your preferred target on the assignment board is to sign up early. People who are part of the work party preceding the shoot are rewarded for their efforts by having first choice of assignment. On Sunday morning, those who get through the registration line early have the first opportunity at taking a target (first come first served).

Our next invitational tournament is the Tomahawk, scheduled for Sunday October 6th, and there will be a fun day along with a pig roast on Saturday the 5th. The setup for the shoot will be on Friday the 4th at 8:00 so that those of us who do the setup will be able to participate in the Saturday festivities. This should be a good weekend and I hope you can all come out and enjoy it with us.

That’s all for now folks.

Pete.

Hope this finds everyone safe and sane, after the 4th of July, and hope you are all dealing with the heat as well as you can.

We just finished the Flint League. I want to thank everyone that came out to shoot this league. As I said when the sun was shining in everyone eyes. We will start this next year, in April or May. I hope that will help. Congratulations to all the winners. Congrats to Mark Van Patten for the shoot off win. This was a good example of why you should always check your sight pin. Name left off to protect the innocent.

I made the announcement during this shoot, to everyone there. But this is for the other members that were not there.

There will NOT BE A SUMMER LEAGUE SHOOT THIS YEAR. I will be out of the state.

On happier note, I won a triad bow at our banquet. Thank you, Willow Creek. Anyhow, my daughter used to shoot one at Camp Oaks. She asked me if we could go to the range so she could try and shoot this one. "Happy Dad moment" so we head down to the range. I never having ever shot one myself was like a flounder on dry land. So, I asked a few of our members for help. Boy did they ever step up. Thank you Mark Groudis, Chris Strout, David Bacon and Larry. Thank for all your help and experience.

Looks like we may have a new member coming aboard.

Cook Shack Corner

To run the cook shack takes a team and I have a great team of volunteers that I have come to rely on over the past couple of years.

I would like to take this time to say that thanks to all my volunteers as well as my key people.

Melinda Donan: my right hand who is always at the range 1st thing in the morning. She makes sure you all get the best breakfast burritos, as well as making lunch runs with no issues. Thanks to her I can drive around and make sure you all have plenty of water on those hot sunny days. Another thing that Melinda does is she stays till the bitter end even knowing that she has a very long drive home. Also, let's not forget about Jack’s the cook shack mascot always ready to ring his bell when asked.

Reannin Weinstein and her daughter Ari: these two are my left hand, always there to make sure all the other cook shacks are supplied. Reannin also oversees the cleans up at the end of each tournament, no matter how long of a day it has been. She also oversees the teams that are working the other shack so that they know what is expected.

Chuck Gunter: is the best sous chef that I can afford, I always know that when Dave sends the email for cook shack works he responds. He also is another one that will stay until I say you are good to go.

Rex Mohammad: is one of my last minute people that I know I can count on to fill a space when needed, and is always willing to work at any cook shack even though he likes the tree stand. All though he did get to work with Juses the fish taco guy so he may have found a new cook shack, we will see.

There have been many others like Karen Im Hof and her assistance Don Augustine, Angel Horta (AKA Waterboy), Jamie and his better half Lorena Jasso who was always ready to help. These and many more that have helped over the years make me look really good and for that I’m ever grateful.

End closing I appreciate everyone of my volunteers and I felt it time to say thank you.

Thank You,

Steven Baker Cookshack Coordinator

Oranco Bowmen Archery Range

Occupying about 45 acres, Oranco Bowmen Archery Club is a NFAA certified 5-star range. This is the highest certification given by NFAA. We are the only range in Southern California with practice butts from 10-80 yards in 5-yard increments. If you need a place to "dial in" your bow, this is it!

Oranco also has two NFAA roving courses: Our Valley Course is a level 28-target course, consisting of 14 animal and 14 hunter paper targets. For those who desire a bit more of a physical challenge, our Mountain Course is a hilly 28-target course offering 14 Field targets and another set of 14 animal paper targets. The Layout changes occasionally.

Oranco is not responsible for lost or stolen belongings.

Please remember to lock your vehicles when you are not present and always take your equipment home with you. We have received reports about stolen equipment, and want everyone to understand that you alone are responsible for your belongings. We advise you to put your identification information on your belongings and try not to leave anything unattended.

Remember: We are open to the public on Sundays and during shoots. During these events it is much more difficult to track who is on range property, especially if people do not sign in at the office.

Be safe and responsible everyone.
 Announcements

Range Beautification Party: We would greatly appreciate your help and support to the upcoming Work Parties. Keep an eye out for the email blast. All Club Members and their families are invited. Per Al Wiscovitch, Club President there will be an “ALL YOU CAN EAT LUNCH” served for ALL of our Volunteers who come out and help.

Your assistance ensures that the Oranco Bowmen Archery Club remains the best in Southern California. There is a reason why people travel from all over California to shoot at our Archery Club. Get involved and help us out.

Cook Shack Workers Needed: Positions are still available for volunteers to help out during the upcoming shoots.

Please contact Steve Baker in order to reserve your spot at: Cell# (951) 285-1550. First Come, First Served.

Target Camping: This is NOT Allowed...Period. Your Membership will be terminated for doing this! The Practice Butts are for sighting in, improving your archery skills, and honing your accuracy. The Roving Range is just that, Roving. Shoot 4 arrows, Score them, then move on to the next target.

You have been warned. Don't do it. It is not worth it.

TERIYAKI DUCK AND PINEAPPLE BURGERS

CHEF’S NOTES:

This recipe is for those who appreciate the salty-sweet contrast of Hawaiian pizza. Similarly, pineapple and sticky teriyaki sauce offer a tasty contrast to these rich and savory burgers made with waterfowl breast and bacon. If you’d like, you can also add some cheese like pepper jack or mozzarella.
