Membership Chairmen
By: David Bacon - Club Membership

Hi All,
Here is a quick update on how membership is doing…Currently we are at 382 members including 74 prospective members.

This year marked the third renewal season for the new accounting system and membership process and it think all the hard work is stating to pay off. More members are taking advantage of the electronic (Credit/Debit) payment option which greatly reduces the time it takes to get the new membership cards and gate codes into the hands of our members. Since we are processing fewer checks and cash payments our Treasurer has had to make fewer trips to the bank and so far we have had zero returned checks. Our goal to streamline the process and achieve a one to one accounting for each membership is clearly in sight.

That said, the biggest challenge we still face is out of date CBH or NFAA memberships. This is a club requirement that is clearly stated in our Club’s By-Laws and strictly enforced. No Association card, no membership card and gate code. No Exceptions. On May 1st when renewal invoices were sent out, almost half of our membership’s association cards were expired. This causes a significant delay in getting the new membership cards and gate codes in the mail and is a big headache for the CBH secretary who has to rush to deal with a pile of applications for renewal this time each year and that just isn’t fair to her. It is your responsibility as a club member to maintain your association membership and forward your new card to the membership chairman in a timely fashion. In the past, the club required an up to date association card not only at renewal time but also for the mid-year (January) gate code mailing. The mid year requirement was halted a few years ago however it has caused more problems than it saved so at the June meeting, the board of directors reinstated the rule so we will also be checking association cards before we send out the January code in December so if your CBH or NFAA card is expired or expires before January 1st each year, you will not receive the new gate code on time. It has been said time and time a gain that membership is the hardest job in the club but it doesn’t have to be if everyone does their part.

On another note, I am looking for an assistant for Membership. The job includes helping out with membership duties and assist in opening the club a few times a year. Work party credits available. Let me know if you are interested.

Oranco Bowmen Archery Range

Occupying about 45 acres, Oranco Bowmen Archery Club is a NFAA certified 5-star range. This is the highest certification given by NFAA. We are the only range in Southern California with practice butts from 10-80 yards in 5-yard increments. If you need a place to "dial in" your bow, this is it!

Oranco also has two NFAA roving courses: Our Valley Course is a level 28-target course, consisting of 14 animal and 14 hunter paper targets. For those who desire a bit more of a physical challenge, our Mountain Course is a hilly 28-target course offering 14 Field targets and another set of 14 animal paper targets. The Layout changes occasionally.

Oranco is not responsible for lost or stolen belongings.

Please remember to lock your vehicles when you are not present and always take your equipment home with you. We have received reports about stolen equipment, and want everyone to understand that you alone are responsible for your belongings. We advise you to put your identification information on your belongings and try not to leave anything unattended.

Remember: We are open to the public on Sundays and during shoots. During these events it is much more difficult to track who is on range property, especially if people do not sign in at the office.

Be safe and responsible everyone.

Range Beautification Party: We would greatly appreciate your help and support to the upcoming Work Parties. Keep an eye out for the email blast. All Club Members and their families are invited. Per Joe Dotterer, Club President there will be an “ALL YOU CAN EAT LUNCH” served for ALL of our Volunteers who come out and help.

Your assistance ensures that the Oranco Bowmen Archery Club remains the best in Southern California. There is a reason why people travel from all over California to shoot at our Archery Club. Get involved and help us out.
Cook Shack Workers Needed: Positions are still available for volunteers to help out during the upcoming shoots. Tony Tobinis back and will be taking over Cook Shack Assignments effective immediately. Terry Lopez will no longer be accepting calls for Cook Shack volunteers.

Please contact Tony Tobin in order to reserve your spot at: Cell# (626) 354-2268. Due to poor cell service in his area please contact him via TEXT message to assure he can receive your information. First Come, First Served.

Target Camping: This is NOT Allowed...Period. Your Membership will be terminated for doing this! The Practice Butts are for sighting in, improving your archery skills, and honing your accuracy. The Roving Range is just that, Roving. Shoot 4 arrows, Score them, then move on to the next target.

You have been warned. Don't do it. It is not worth it.

Step-By-Step Bow Tuning for Beginners

Confidence in your setup is usually followed by success in the field. To achieve it, your bow needs tuned for top-notch accuracy.

8 Critters You Can Bowhunt in the Off-Season

The hot summer months are upon us, and many bowhunters across the country are feeling the off-season itch as they look ahead to fall. The lack of hunting opportunity at this time of year can often bring sadness to many hunters.
