Hello Oranco club members,

Hope all of you are well and enjoying our cool weather. I want to take a moment to thank all those who came out this past Saturday to help with the San Bernardino County Parks and Recreation Festival held at Prado Regional Park. We had a total of 13 volunteers including myself. It was a fun day for the many kids and parents that attended this event. There were a lot of vendors who came to support this event and share their specialties as we did ours. I couldn't help to note how busy we were compared to all the others who had come to support us as we did. The county director came over to thank us at the end of the day and wanted to share that we were the top draw of the day with so many people till her that their kids love shooting our bows. I must say that from my view that’s how I saw it as well. So to all of our volunteers who work there, but off thank you thank you for giving of your time and bits of patience with all those kids. I’m sure as ambassadors to archery our mission was a big success.

Now most of you have read my thank you letter to those who came to our banquet. I would like to share it with all of you and hope if you have never been to our banquet that you will try and put it on your schedule next year.

Good evening Oranco Bowmen,

I would like to thank all of you that were able to make our banquet last night. What a night we had we were able to celebrate Bill Leal's 90th birthday and was given a lifetime award for his long time service and contributions to Oranco Bowmen. It's people like Bill Leal who I call foundational members who have been part of our club for over forty years and done so much to help grow and develop our 5-Star range. We thank you Bill and wish you continued good health. We also celebrated our awards to our members for outstanding service and archery accomplishments. Two of our most prestigious awards were given out last night Herry Poteet and Richard Snyder with Mark Houston receiving the Richard Snyder award and the Herry Poteet award going to Steve Baker. Thank you guys for your dedication and hard work. I would also like to thank our sponsors, Willow Creek Archery, Turner's outdoorsman and Victory Arrows who helped us make our raffle a big success Saturday evening. Thank you guys. If I could also thank our board members and members who came out and helped to set up our banquet and take down Thank you. This year we had a very nice talented singer Tatiana Raines who did a great job with the music and songs that she played for our evening event. Thank you I had a lot of members come to me and loved having you entertain us.

Last but not least Richard Jones food service was outstanding as always our members enjoyed the chuckwagon style food. I would also like to thank my wonderful wife Suzy for making our cakes as always a big hit. I love that Ultrawoman. Enclosing Great evening and I hope you all that were there enjoyed it as much as I did!

Thank you

Club Vice President

By: Pete Whitworth - Club Vice President

Hi Everyone. I am Pete, the Vice President and as such it is my responsibility to run our club invitational shoots. Along with our President Al Wiscovitch, I also deal with the day to day running of the club in general, and specifically we handle any complaints or issues that any of you have. Naturally you are always free to voice any issues at our club meetings held on the second Tuesday of every month at 7:00 PM in the clubhouse, however; Al and I are here to keep things running smooth on a daily basis. So, when problems arise, you should always feel free to contact either of us for immediate help.

Next thing on my agenda is the upcoming Firecracker shoot on June 23rd. That means we will be setting up the tournament on Saturday the 22nd. So please mark that on your calendar I need the usual suspects at 8:00 AM on Saturday the 22nd,to do setup as well as cleaning up around the assembly area and inside the clubhouse. Steve Baker will be asking for help on Sunday the 23rd to run the cook shacks so please text him to reserve a spot. Then we will be pulling down all the targets on Monday the 24th, so if you are not working on Monday morning and are willing to come out and lend a hand we will hook up the trailer and start tear down at 9:00 (We “me” are all pretty tired from Sunday, so we “me” like to start a little later at 9 on Monday. Thank you and I hope to see you all out there.

This month is a heavy schedule for our outside introduction to archery events and so far we have had a healthy number of people show up to help with that. On the 1st, we were at Raahauges outdoor Safari, where we hosted what looked like a couple thousand youngsters that were excited to get to take a few shots with a bow. The following weekend on the 8th, we were at Prado Park doing the same thing at their annual fish and outdoor event. Then at the end of the month on the 29th, we will be doing this yet again at the Compton gun club.

I have to say that this can be grueling, especially when we are doing three of them in one month, but it’s also rewarding to see the smiles on their faces when they experience this for the first time. If you are interested in helping us bring the first archery experience to some of the shortest future archers in the state, let us know and you will be welcome to come out and help on the 29th.

That’s all for now folks.

Pete.

Tournament Chairman

Awhile back we had the Wiseburn DaVinchi High School Archery team from LA out to our Club for a day of field archery.

After a safety briefing and a quick field archery class we divided them up into 5 groups, assigned a chaperone from their coaching staff to each group and sent them off to have fun.

I went from group to group answering questions and explaining how to shoot some of the more difficult targets. It was very encouraging to see how dedicated they are to our sport. All were taking it very seriously and were grateful for the opportunity to shoot the valley range as they normally practice on a basketball court at their high school so a day out in nature was a welcome change.

All the kids were very well behaved, courteous and were truly grateful for the opportunity

As they were boarding their bus for the return trip to LA I asked them one question...Did you have fun? and got a resounding YES so I invited them back to the club again and offered our range so they could have a tournament.

Dear Oranco Bowmen,

Thank you so much for hosting our Wiseburn DaVinci High School archery team at your beautiful facility for our first-ever NFAA style field event. With over 30 athletes and 5 coaches attending, your warm welcome and exceptional organization made our experience truly memorable. The lush greenery and vibrant spring blooms provided a perfect backdrop, enhancing the spirit of the competition.

We would especially like to express our gratitude to David Bacon, your Education Chair, and Terry Adams, a venerable member of your club, for their outstanding support and guidance. Their expertise and passion for archery deeply enriched our students' learning and enjoyment.

This event was unanimously voted as the favorite of the year by all who attended. We are immensely grateful for the opportunity to collaborate with Oranco Bowmen and look forward to future endeavors together.

Thank you so so much!

Oranco Bowmen Archery Range

Occupying about 45 acres, Oranco Bowmen Archery Club is a NFAA certified 5-star range. This is the highest certification given by NFAA. We are the only range in Southern California with practice butts from 10-80 yards in 5-yard increments. If you need a place to "dial in" your bow, this is it!

Oranco also has two NFAA roving courses: Our Valley Course is a level 28-target course, consisting of 14 animal and 14 hunter paper targets. For those who desire a bit more of a physical challenge, our Mountain Course is a hilly 28-target course offering 14 Field targets and another set of 14 animal paper targets. The Layout changes occasionally.

Oranco is not responsible for lost or stolen belongings.

Please remember to lock your vehicles when you are not present and always take your equipment home with you. We have received reports about stolen equipment, and want everyone to understand that you alone are responsible for your belongings. We advise you to put your identification information on your belongings and try not to leave anything unattended.

Remember: We are open to the public on Sundays and during shoots. During these events it is much more difficult to track who is on range property, especially if people do not sign in at the office.

Be safe and responsible everyone.
 Announcements

Range Beautification Party: We would greatly appreciate your help and support to the upcoming Work Parties. Keep an eye out for the email blast. All Club Members and their families are invited. Per Al Wiscovitch, Club President there will be an “ALL YOU CAN EAT LUNCH” served for ALL of our Volunteers who come out and help.

Your assistance ensures that the Oranco Bowmen Archery Club remains the best in Southern California. There is a reason why people travel from all over California to shoot at our Archery Club. Get involved and help us out.

Cook Shack Workers Needed: Positions are still available for volunteers to help out during the upcoming shoots.

Please contact Steve Baker in order to reserve your spot at: Cell# (951) 285-1550. First Come, First Served.

Target Camping: This is NOT Allowed...Period. Your Membership will be terminated for doing this! The Practice Butts are for sighting in, improving your archery skills, and honing your accuracy. The Roving Range is just that, Roving. Shoot 4 arrows, Score them, then move on to the next target.

You have been warned. Don't do it. It is not worth it.

Would You Move for Better Hunting?

“The grass is always greener on the other side.”

When it comes to us hunters, we know this phrase all too well. Typically, it’s because we believe the neighbor’s property must be hoarding all the big deer. Or that our success would be higher if we hunted a different county.
